Greek Unity ( el, Ελληνική Ενότητα, abbreviated as ΕΛ.ΕΝ.) is a minor Greek nationalist political party. It is led by Vasileios (also Vasilis) Protopapas ( el, Βασίλης Πρωτόπαπας), one-time president of the Movement for the Release of Army Officers ( el, Κίνηση Αποφυλακίσεως Αξιωματικών, which campaigns for the release of the 1967-1975 Junta participants from prison, and vice-president of the Panhellenic Association of Combatants and Friends of the National Resistance Organisation ' X' ( el, Πανελλήνιος Σύνδεσμος Μαχητών και Φίλων της Εθνικής Αντιστασιακής Οργανώσεως «Χ»). Organization Of National Resistance Of The Interior X (Chi)
The Organization ''X'' ( el, Οργάνωσις Χ; commonly referred to simply as ''X'' ("Chi" in Greek), and members as Chites (Χίτες)) was a paramilitary right-wing anti-communist royalist organization set up in 1941 during the Axis occupation of Greece. Initially an anti-Axis resistance organization, it gradually shifted its focus towards anti-communism. In 1951, ''X'' was officially recognized as a ''National Organization of Internal Resistance'' by the Greek Ministry of National Defense. Following the end of the Axis occupation, it played an active role in the persecution of communists during the White Terror and various military operations of the Greek Civil War, most notably the Dekemvriana. 2009 European Parliament Election In Greece
European Parliament elections were held in Greece on 7 June 2009 to elect the 22 Greek members of the European Parliament. Members were elected by party-list proportional representation with a 3% electoral threshold. The number of seats allocated to Greece was reduced from 24 to 22, as a result of new member states joining the European Union (EU). Consistent with EU-wide rules, Greek citizens resident in another of the 26-member states were permitted to vote in the place where they currently reside. Participating parties On 24 May, the Greek Court of Cassation, the country's supreme court, accepted the applications of 27 of the 33 parties which applied to contest the elections. Greek Junta Trials
The Greek junta trials ( el, Οι Δίκες της Χούντας translated as: The Τrials of the Junta) were the trials involving members of the military junta that ruled Greece from 21 April 1967 to 23 July 1974. These trials involved the instigators of the coup as well as other junta members of various ranks who took part in the events of the Athens Polytechnic uprising and in the torture of citizens. Court Of Cassation (Greece)
The Supreme Civil and Criminal Court of Greece (, ''Areopagus'', i.e. the "Hill of Ares") is the supreme court of Greece for civil and criminal law. In Greece, the decisions of the supreme court are final. However, since Greece is a member state of the Council of Europe, cases ruled on by the Greek high court can be appealed to the European Court of Human Rights. If the supreme court decides that a lower court violated the law or principles of legal process, it can order the rehearing of a case by the lower court. The court consists of the president and the attorney-general, ten vice-presidents, sixty five ''areopagites'' and seventeen deputy attorneys-general. The members of the Supreme Court are tenured until they reach the mandatory retirement age of 67, as mandated by the Greek constitution.
