Vino Greco
Vino Greco is the name of a wine style which originated, at least 2,150 years ago, as an Italian imitation of the sweet, strong Greek wines that were exported to Italy at the period of the Roman Republic and Roman Empire. Its names in other languages were: Latin ''vinum graecum''; English ''Greek'', ''greke'', ''wine greke''; French ''vin grec''. The earliest recipe for ''vinum Graecum'' is in Cato the Elder's manual of farming, '' De agri cultura'', compiled around 150 BC. Salt is added to the must. Once sealed in amphoras, ''vinum graecum'' is matured under the sun for two years before sale. Incidentally, the name did not necessarily cause confusion with real exported Greek wine, which was called ''vinum transmarinum'' ("overseas wine") in classical Latin. Methods have changed totally over the long history of vino greco, but the name still survives in a few Italian wines, notably the sweet white Greco di Bianco and Greco di Gerace from southern Calabria (they both can be only pr ... Greco (district Of Milan)
Greco is a district ("quartiere") of Milan, Italy, part of the Zone 2 administrative division, located north-east of the city centre. Before being annexed to the city of Milan (in 1923) it was an independent comune, named Greco Milanese. As "Greco" is the Italian word for ''Greek'', it has been suggested that the name refer to an old Greek settlement in the area; nevertheless, scholars tend to believe that the place was actually named after the Greco family that used to live here (at least until the 12th Century). The architecture and urban layout of Greco still reveal its origins as a small rural " borgo". Several old "cascine" (the typical country house of Lombardy) are still in place and have been restored to meet modern standards while retaining their original overall style. History A settlement in Greco is reported at least since Julius Caesar times. In the middle ages Greco was an independent ''comune''; the place is mentioned in Alessandro Manzoni's '' The Betrothed'' as a ... Greco Defence
The Greco Defence (or McConnell Defence), named after Gioachino Greco (c. 1600 – c. 1634), is a chess opening that begins with the moves: :1. e4 e5 :2. Nf3 Qf6 The opening is categorised by ''Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings'' as code C40. Discussion Of the several plausible ways Black has to defend his e-pawn, 2...Qf6 is considered one of the weaker choices, since the queen is prematurely and can become a target for attack. Also, the black knight on g8 is deprived of its most natural square. There is, however, no obvious refutation of this opening; White's advantage consists mainly of smoother development. Although it is a popular opening choice by novice players, it has also been used by players who, according to International Master Gary Lane, "should know better". Examples Greco line Greco himself illustrated the following amusing line against this defence in 1620: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Qf6 3. Bc4 Qg6 4. 0-0 Qxe4 5. Greco (Chrono Cross)
is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) for the PlayStation video game console. It is the successor to ''Chrono Trigger'', which was released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. While its predecessor, like most role-playing games at the time, only offered a handful of playable characters, ''Chrono Cross'' was notable for making 45 different characters available for recruitment over the course of the game, each with distinct backstory and speech patterns. The game's writer, Masato Kato, started with the core characters from ''Radical Dreamers'', a rare, Japan-only visual novel he felt ultimately went unfinished, and greatly expanded the cast and scenario, while leaving the creation of some minor characters to various other members of the development team. The developers also created an "auto accent program", to apply accents and other quirks to character's dialogue, making the dialogue altered depending on who was present ...
