''Greatest Hits'' is a 2005 compilation album by the American punk rock band The Offspring, compiling hit singles from five of their seven (at the time) studio albums along with the previously unreleased songs " Can't Repeat" and " Next to You", the latter a cover version of The Police song included as a hidden track at the end of the album. ''Greatest Hits'' peaked at no. 8 on the ''Billboard'' 200, with 70,000 copies sold in its first week of release, and has been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. "Can't Repeat" was released as a single to promote the album, and peaked at no. 9 on ''Billboard'''s Modern Rock Tracks chart and no. 10 on its Mainstream Rock Tracks. The Offspring
The Offspring is an American rock band from Garden Grove, California, formed in 1984. Originally formed under the name Manic Subsidal, the band's current lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Bryan "Dexter" Holland, lead guitarist Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman and bassist Todd Morse. Over the course of their -year career, The Offspring have released 10 studio albums and have also experienced a number of lineup changes, most notably with their drummer. Their longest-serving drummer was Ron Welty, who replaced original drummer James Lilja in 1987 and stayed with The Offspring for 16 years. Welty was replaced by Atom Willard in 2003, who was replaced four years later by Pete Parada, who remained as the drummer for The Offspring until 2021. Gregory "Greg K." I Choose
"I Choose" is a punk rock song by the Offspring. It is the eighth track on their fourth studio album, ''Ixnay on the Hombre'' (1997), and was released as its fourth and final single. The single enjoyed less commercial success compared with the previous singles from the album and was omitted from the band's ''Greatest Hits'' album (2005). However, it became another top 10 Hot Mainstream Rock Track for The Offspring. Literary reference The song, in its second verse, contains a literary reference to J. D. Salinger's short story, "A Perfect Day for Bananafish." Universal Media Disc
The Universal Media Disc (UMD) is a discontinued optical disc medium developed by Sony for use on its PlayStation Portable handheld gaming and multimedia platform. It can hold up to 1.8 gigabytes of data and is capable of storing video games, feature-length films, and music. UMD was the trademark of Sony Computer Entertainment for their optical disk cartridge (ODC). Video storage format While the primary application for UMD discs is as a storage medium for PSP games, the format is also used for the storage of motion pictures and, to a lesser degree, television shows for playback on the PSP. The video is encoded in the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format, with the audio in ATRAC3plus or PCM. Video stored on UMD is typically encoded in 720×480 resolution, but is scaled down when displayed on the PSP. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a trade organization that represents the music recording industry in the United States. The threshold quantity varies by type (such as album, single, music video) and by nation or territory (see List of music recording certifications).
