Richard Serrell, better known by his stage name Richie Rich, is a rapper from Oakland, California, Oakland, California. He currently runs his own record label, Ten-Six Records. Music career Early years (1987-99) Richie Rich first entered music in the late 1980s with the group 415 (group), 415. With 415 (group), D-Loc, 415 (group), DJ Daryl, and 415 (group), JED, Rich crafted a Bay Area album in 1989 called ''41Fivin'', which sold well around the Bay Area and spawned a Richie Rich solo album in 1990, titled ''Don't Do It''. His rapping style had an influence on Snoop Dogg. West Coast hip hop is a regional genre of hip hop music that encompasses any artists or music that originated in the West Coast region of the United States. G-funk
G-funk, short for gangsta funk, is a sub-genre of gangsta rap that emerged from the West Coast scene in the late 1980s. The genre is heavily influenced by 1970s psychedelic funk (P-funk) sound of artists such as Parliament-Funkadelic. Characteristics G-funk (which uses funk with an artificially altered tempo) incorporates multi-layered and melodic synthesizers, slow hypnotic grooves, a deep bass, heavy use of the snare drum, background female vocals, the extensive sampling of P-Funk tunes, and a high-pitched portamento saw wave synthesizer lead. It is typically set at a tempo of anywhere between 80 to 100 BPM. The lyrical content depended on the artist and could consist of sex, drug use (especially marijuana), love for a city/neighborhood, love for friends and relaxing words. Gangsta Rap
Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. Many gangsta rappers flaunt associations with real street gangs, like the Crips and Bloods. Gangsta rap's pioneers Ice-T in 1986, and especially N.W.A in 1988 and the rise of Tupac Amaru Shakur in 1992. 415 (group)
415 was an American hip hop group formed in Oakland, California in 1988. The group was composed of rappers Richie Rich and D-Loc, and producers DJ Daryl and J.E.D. History The group takes its name from area code 415, which served Oakland at the time of the group's formation. The group was noted by the media as one of the key players in the early West Coast hip hop scene. Their debut album ''41Fivin'' was released in 1990. Richie Rich and D-Loc then released solo albums, with the various members of 415 all collaborating on each. Later in 1990, the group attracted the interest of Priority Records and nearly signed a deal, but the deal fell through temporarily when Richie Rich was arrested for cocaine possession. Rich later claimed that his groupmates signed with Priority behind his back. Rich was sentenced to two years in prison, and 415 recorded their second album ''Nu Niggaz on tha Blokkk'' without him.
