It was written by Lenny Kravitz and Craig Ross. Stand By My Woman
"Stand by My Woman" is a song recorded by American singer Lenny Kravitz and released on September 2, 1991, as the fourth single from his second studio album '' Mama Said''. The song was later included as a track on his 2000 album '' Greatest Hits''. Critical reception Christopher A. Daniel of Albumism said "Stand By My Woman" is "one of the album’s more remorseful moments, allowing Kravitz to be vulnerable over gospel-inspired pianos and organs." Greg Kot of the ''Chicago Tribune'' wrote, "As demonstrated on "All I Ever Wanted" and "Stand by My Woman", Kravitz is particularly fond of John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band phase, in which Phil Spector's echo-laden production inflated the sparest instrumentation-simple snare beats, bell-like piano chords-around gut-wrenching vocals." Elysa Gardner of ''Rolling Stone'' stated, "Prince – a musician whose penchant for producing and playing various instruments Kravitz shares and a singer whose whisper-to-a-scream vocal style he adopts for u ...

Can't Get You Off My Mind
"Can't Get You Off My Mind" is a song written and performed by American singer and songwriter Lenny Kravitz and released in February 1996 as the third single from his fourth studio album, ''Circus'' (1995). The song was later included in the albums ''Greatest Hits'' (2000) and '' Lenny'' (2001) as a bonus track. There are two versions of the music video for the song: one was directed by Matthew Rolston, the other by Jim Gable. Background The song was inspired by Kravitz's missing his then-girlfriend while being on tour. Also, he missed his mother who died in December 1995. He explained to ''The Guardian'' that he envisioned the song while he stayed at the Royalton hotel in New York. The song was initially called "The Country Song." Kravitz also said to '' Q'', "...lyric was not a pastiche, man. It came out of me naturally, just as all my lyrics do. I don't analyze songwriting, I simply write... And anyway, when you are on tour a lot, as I was, life is a lonely highway, and I did g ...

Mama Said (album)
''Mama Said'' is the second studio album by American rock musician Lenny Kravitz, released in April 1991 by Virgin Records. Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash co-wrote and played on the song "Always on the Run". He also played on the song "Fields of Joy". The song "All I Ever Wanted" was co-written by Sean Lennon. Although the album has sold enough copies to be certified double platinum, the RIAA still has it listed as platinum. In the UK, the album reached number 8 on the UK Albums Chart. In 2012, Virgin Records released an expanded, double-disc version of the album with a number of remixes and bonus tracks. Reception Greg Kot of ''Chicago Tribune'' commented "Rather than building on the '60s influences that permeated his 1989 debut, ''Let Love Rule'', Kravitz practically wallows in them on ''Mama Said''... Kravitz`s taste is commendable, and ''Mama Said'' sounds admirably gritty and sexy, without big '90s production touches. But until Kravitz begins transforming his influences ...

It Ain't Over 'til It's Over
"It Ain't Over 'til It's Over" is a song written, produced, and performed by American musician Lenny Kravitz for his second studio album, '' Mama Said'' (1991). Released as the album's second single in June 1991, the song is a mid-tempo ballad musically inspired by Motown, Philly soul, and Earth, Wind & Fire (particularly "That's the Way of the World"). The horn line at the end is performed by the Phenix Horns from Earth, Wind & Fire. "That song just came out one day, and I knew it had a classic vibe. And I still love that song very much today," Kravitz said in an interview for VivaMusic.com in 2000. The line is based on a Yogiism, or quotation from Yogi Berra: "It ain't over 'til it's over." "It Ain't Over 'til It's Over" was Kravitz's first top-10 hit on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, reaching 2 to become his highest peak on the chart. Worldwide, the single also reached No. 2 in Canada and peaked within the top 10 on the charts of Australia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. In ...

Circus (Lenny Kravitz Album)
''Circus'' is the fourth studio album by American rock musician Lenny Kravitz, released in 1995 by Virgin Records. It reached number 10 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and number 5 on the UK Albums Chart, becoming Kravitz's first top 10 album in the US and second in the UK. Background The album deals with different topics, such as rock star lifestyles on " Rock and Roll Is Dead" and religion on "God Is Love" and "The Resurrection". Kravitz is quoted as saying that the making of the album was a very tedious process—he was unhappy with the music business at the time, and his mother's illness was also weighing on his mind. The recording locations were Chateau Des Conde, France; Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas; and Waterfront Studios, Hoboken, NJ. Reception Rob Wagner of '' The Tech'' stated, "Though Circus is a bit of a rip-off album, it could be justified. Kravitz believes that rock and roll is dead, so he could be trying to revive it by copying past rock and roll songs that wo ...

Rock And Roll Is Dead
"Rock and Roll Is Dead" is the first single released from the 1995 Lenny Kravitz album ''Circus''. The song reached the top 20 in Canada, Finland, New Zealand, and Spain, but it underperformed in the United States, peaking at number 75 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Content Kravitz told on the meaning of "Rock and Roll Is Dead": Critical reception Pan-European magazine '' Music & Media'' wrote, "Borrowing half of the riff from Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker is not exactly the way to back up the statement he's making here. By going retro again, Kravitz reanimates rock totally. DJ Hans Van Rijn at Danish radio station The Voice/Copenhagen said, "As rock is still very big in Scandinavia, it will be a big radio hit. It's typical of him, the way it's structured. Although playable in all day slots, in the evening it will do best on EHR stations which pretend to cater to youth." Kravitz was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for this song in 1996. Chart ...
