Mahlon Hamilton
Mahlon Preston Hamilton, Jr. (June 15, 1880 – June 20, 1960), was an American stage and screen actor. He was the son of a bartender born in Baltimore, Maryland, the eldest of four children, with the rest of the siblings being girls. Census records indicate his mother died sometime around 1899. Hamilton served with the Maryland National Guard and attended the Maryland Agricultural College (today the University of Maryland, College Park) before turning to acting. From 1908 through 1914, Hamilton appeared in such plays as ''The Great Question'', ''Israel'', ''When Claudia Smiles'', ''The Chaperon'', and ''Overnight''. He began his film career during the silent era, appearing in more than 90 films between 1914 and 1950. Personal life and death Hamilton married Aleta Farnum in 1918; the marriage ended in divorce in 1925. Eve Southern
Eve Southern (born Elva L. McDowell; August 23, 1900 – November 29, 1972) was an American film actress. She appeared in 38 films from 1916 to 1936. In 1930 she was selected by portrait artist Rolf Armstrong as one of the film industry's 16 "screen beauties". Early years Southern studied music in Fort Worth, with her voice covering three octaves, "the lowest tones of the contralto as well as the high C of the soprano." She also was interested in acting in films, however. Career Southern moved from Fort Worth to Hollywood and began working in films when she was 13 years old, but many of her parts were removed in editing. After appearing in several films in the late 1910s and early 1920s, Southern suffered an automobile accident in June 1929 that left her badly injured. It was reported in July that year that she had "been in a plaster cast for weeks." In 1932, she broke her back, after which she appeared in several roles before retiring from film. Gertrude Claire
Gertrude Claire (July 16, 1852 – April 28, 1928) was an actress of the American stage and Hollywood silent motion pictures. Biography Claire was born in Chicago, Illinois, and began appearing onstage at the age of 16. She played minor roles in New York City. In the coming years she began to play leads. Among the actors of note she played with John Drew Jr., Edwin Booth, and Richard Mansfield. She began work in films while the industry was still based in New York. Then she moved to Hollywood, where she was part of the first motion picture playing company organized there. Claire had roles in 123 films beginning in 1910 and continuing until 1928. Her last appearance in movies was in the Clara Bow feature film '' Red Hair'' (1928). On April 28, 1928, Claire died at her home in Hollywood, aged 76. Edward Martindel (July 8, 1876 – May 4, 1955) was an American stage and film actor who appeared on Broadway and in more than 80 films between 1915 and 1946. Born in Hamilton, Ohio, he was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Martindell. His singing debut came under the management of Henry Savage. He appeared in 16 Broadway plays, beginning with ''Dolly Varden'' (1902) and ending with '' The Little Blue Devil'' (1919). He died on May 4, 1955 in Los Angeles, California, from a heart attack. Betty Francisco (born Elizabeth Barton; September 26, 1900 – November 25, 1950) was an American silent-film actress, appearing primarily in supporting roles. Her sisters Evelyn and Margaret were also actresses. Early years Francisco was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. As a child, she acted in stock theater companies. When she was older, she became an artists' model. Career Francisco is credited in more than 50 films from 1920 to 1934, after which it appears she retired from motion picture acting. Her first film credit was in the 1920 film ''A Broadway Cowboy''. Selected as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars in 1923, she nevertheless continued to be cast in secondary roles and rarely played the lead.
