Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra
The Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra (GGFSO) is a community orchestra based in Grand Forks, North Dakota that began operation in 1908. One of eighteen American orchestras to have surpassed their centennial year, the symphony employs local and regional musicians in performances of classical and modern symphonic music. An orchestra (; ) is a large instrumental ensemble typical of classical music, which combines instruments from different families. Grand Forks, North Dakota
Grand Forks is the third-largest city in the state of North Dakota (after Fargo and Bismarck) and the county seat of Grand Forks County. According to the 2020 census, the city's population was 59,166. Grand Forks, along with its twin city of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, forms the center of the Grand Forks, ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is often called Greater Grand Forks or the Grand Cities. Alexander Platt
Alexander Platt is an American symphony orchestra conductor and music director. He is currently the music director for Maverick Concerts, the Wisconsin Philharmonic, and the Waukegan and La Crosse Symphony Orchestras. Early life and education Born in New York City in 1965, Platt was raised in Westport, Connecticut. He currently resides in Chicago and New York. As a child, Platt originally learned to play the viola. He first began conducting while in high school. His brother, Russell Platt, also conducts and composes. Platt graduated from Berkeley College at Yale University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. As a British Marshall Scholar at King’s College, Cambridge, he was awarded a MPhil in musicology in 1989 and completed PhD research. Chiara String Quartet
The Chiara String Quartet was an internationally performing professional string quartet based in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Group was the Quartet-in-residence at the School of Music in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Blodgett Artists-in-Residence at Harvard University. The group was also in residence as faculty at the Greenwood Music Camp, a summer program for advanced high school musicians. The group's members were Rebecca Fischer and Hyeyung Julie Yoon, violins; Jonah Sirota, viola; and Gregory Beaver, cello. In addition to traditional concertizing, in December 2006 the group began performing in bars and other unusual performance venues for a classical string quartet under the tagline "Chamber music in any chamber". Edward Benjamin Britten, Baron Britten (22 November 1913 – 4 December 1976, aged 63) was an English composer, conductor, and pianist.
