Great Genoa
The term Great Genoa ( it, Grande Genova) refers to the present area of the municipality of Genoa, in the north west of Italy. Great Genoa extends for over 30 km along the coast of Ligurian Sea from Nervi to Voltri, and up the Polcevera valley of the Polcevera river and the Bisagno river valley of the Bisagno river. Great Genoa dates from 1926, when 19 municipalities were added to the six municipalities incorporated in 1874. This aggregation makes Genoa a polycentric city, as the Genoese urban area is made up of several towns each with a strong sense of belonging, a consolidated economic and social structure and an old town, so they are not perceived as "suburbs". Reflecting the strong local identity the inhabitants of many neighborhoods, former municipality, still say "I am going to Genoa" and not "I am going downtown" to state their intention to go to the city center. Prè
Prè (pron. ) is a neighbourhood in the old town of the Italian city of Genoa. It was one of the six ''sestiere, sestieri'' of ancient Genoa. At present it is part of the Genoa's city I Municipio (Centro Est). Located close to the Genoa#Old Harbour, old harbour, it is likely the best-known neighbourhood of the old town of Genoa. Bolzaneto
Bolzaneto is a quarter of the city of Genoa, in northwest Italy, and is part of the Municipality Valpolcevera of Genoa. Geography Bolzaneto was once a hamlet located outside of the city limits in the Polcevera valley, but in the recent centuries it became an industrial area. Today it is a suburb of Genoa, surrounded by many small industries and business firms, but offering excellent views of the city and harbor. Quarto dei Mille is a residential district in the east of Genoa. Overlooking the sea and between the " Sturla" and "Quinto al mare" districts, it was originally called the "Quarto al mare". Sestri Ponente
Sestri Ponente is an industrial suburb of Genoa in northwest Italy. It is part of the Medio Ponente ''municipio'' of Genoa. Geography It is situated on the Ligurian Sea four miles to the west of the city, between Pegli and Cornigliano. Its population is currently about 50,000, but in the 1970s it was as high as 80,000. Sampierdarena (also San Pier d'Arena; Ligurian: San Pè d'ænn-a) is a major port and industrial area of Genoa, in northwest Italy.
