Great Britain competed at the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona, Spain. It finished third in the overall medal count, with a total of 128 medals. This list also includes also the medalists at 1992 Paralympic Games for Persons with mental handicap, which held by the same organizing committee, and is part of same event, but they were held in Madrid, between 15-22 September in the same year. Christopher Holmes, Baron Holmes of Richmond (born 15 October 1971) is a British former swimmer and life peer in the House of Lords. He won a total of nine gold, five silver, and one bronze medal at the Paralympic Games. Holmes represented Great Britain at four Paralympic Games between 1988 and 2000 and is the only British Paralympic swimmer to win six gold medals at a single Games. After retiring from swimming he worked as a journalist and solicitor. Thomas James Hunter, CM, O.Ont (born March 20, 1937) is a Canadian country music performer, known as "Canada's Country Gentleman". Career In 1956, he began performing as a rhythm guitarist on the CBC Television show, ''Country Hoedown''. ''The Tommy Hunter Show'' began as a CBC Radio program in 1960, replacing the long-running variety show ''The Happy Gang'', and went on to replace ''Country Hoedown'' on CBC Television in 1965; Hunter's show was picked up by TNN in 1983 and ran on CBC until 1992. Swimming At The 1992 Summer Paralympics
Swimming at the 1992 Summer Paralympics consisted of 163 events, 88 for men and 75 for women. Because of ties for third place in the women's 50 metre freestyle B3 and men's 50 metre freestyle B2 events, a total of 165 bronze medals were awarded. Starting in 1992, there was a move away from Les Autres specific classifications to functional based classification systems at the Paralympic Games. This was realized in swimming, where Les Autres sportspeople competed directly against people with other disabilities including cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries and amputations. As a result, the 1992 Games saw the total number of classes for people with physical disabilities drop from 31 to 10. Still, swimming, athletics and table tennis used a classification system for the Barcelona Games that was still mostly medical based. Peter Hull
Peter Maurice Hull, MBE (born 6 December 1965 in Paris, France) is a British Paralympic gold medalist. Early life Peter Hull was born in France to English parents. He was born without legs and with arms ending at the elbow. From a young age he attended Chailey Heritage School in Sussex. In his teens he was a boarder at the Hephaistos School, Arborfield, Berkshire. He studied leisure and sport at Farnborough College of Technology. Sporting career Swimming Peter Hull began swimming regularly at the age of 5. In 1975, aged 9, he won a gold medal in his first gala at the British Sports Association for the Disabled (BSAD) National Championships at Stoke Mandeville (though he was the only swimmer in his classification). Simon Jackson (judoka)
Simon Jackson MBE (born 28 May 1972) is a visually impaired judoka and cyclist from Britain. He has competed in five Paralympic Games winning gold medals in three consecutive Games. Jackson is the only British person to win a Paralympic judo gold medal and the most successful judo competitor from the country. In addition to his Paralympic success he also won three world titles and 16 European gold medals. He switched to tandem cycling and won two events in 2009. Sporting career Jackson won gold medals at the 1988, 1992, and 1996 Summer Paralympics and bronze at the 2000 Games in his judo weight class. His loss to Cuban Isao Rafael Cruz Alonso ended a winning streak that had lasted 162 bouts.
