Gravvik (municipality)
Gravvik is a former municipality in the old Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1909 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality covered the northern coastal areas of the present-day municipality of Nærøysund in Trøndelag county. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Gravvik where the Gravvik Church is located. History The municipality of Gravvik was established on 1 January 1909 when the municipality of Leka was divided in two. The northern island area (population: 1,209) became the new (smaller) municipality of Leka and the southern coastal area (population: 881) became the municipality of Gravvik. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. Gravvik
Gravvik or Gravvika is a village in the municipality of Nærøysund in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located on an isthmus between the Årsetfjorden and the Eiterfjorden. Gravvika is about north of the town of Kolvereid. Gravvik Church is located in the village. Agriculture and fishing have traditionally been the primary industries in Gravvik. Today, fish farms, including both salmon and halibut, as well as shellfish are local important industries. The village was the administrative centre of the municipality of Gravvik from 1909 until its dissolution in 1964. Fingalshulen Fingalshulen is a cave and archaeological site at Gravvik. The deep cave has a maximum height in the cave of and maximum width of . It contains 47 cave paintings, including of human figures and some animal shapes. Former Municipalities Of Norway
This is a list of former municipalities of Norway, i.e. municipalities that no longer exist. When the local council system was introduced in Norway in 1837-38, the country had 392 municipalities. In 1958 the number had grown to a total of 744 rural municipalities, 64 city municipalities as well as a small number of small seaports with '' ladested'' status. A committee led by Nikolai Schei, formed in 1946 to examine the situation, proposed hundreds of mergers to reduce the number of municipalities and improve the quality of local administration. Most of the mergers were carried out, albeit to significant popular protest. As of January 2006 there are 431 municipalities in Norway, and there are plans for further mergers and political pressure to do so. Foldereid is a former municipality in the northern part of the old Nord-Trøndelag county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1886 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality encompassed the area surrounding the inner part of the Folda fjord, the ''Innerfolda'' in what is now the municipalities of Nærøysund and Høylandet in Trøndelag county. Nærøy () is a former municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 2020 when it joined Nærøysund Municipality. It was part of the Namdalen region. Norway's smallest town, Kolvereid, was the administrative centre of the municipality. Some villages in Nærøy included Abelvær, Foldereid, Gravvik, Lund, Ottersøy, Salsbruket, Steine, and Torstad. Kolvereid is a former municipality in the old Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality encompassed the central part of what is now the municipality of Nærøysund in Trøndelag county. The municipality included both sides of the central part of the Folda fjord. Schei Committee
The Schei Committee ( no, Schei-komitéen) was a committee named by the Government of Norway to look into the organization of municipalities in Norway post-World War II. It convened in 1946, and its formal name was (The 1946 Committee on Municipal Division). Its more commonly used name derives from the committee leader, Nikolai Schei Nikolai Andreas Schei (9 May 1901 – 25 May 1985) was a Norwegian jurist and civil servant. He was born in Førde as the son of Per Schei (1872–1960) and Johanne Schei (1874–1963). Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag.
