Grassyville, Texas
Grassyville is a ghost town located in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The community was founded in the northeastern corner of the county, near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 2104 and Farm to Market Road 2239, six miles south of Paige, 14 miles east of Bastrop, and 50 miles east of Austin. History Grassyville was settled in the 1850s by German Methodists as an agricultural community. A parsonage was built in 1858; a church was constructed in 1868. The town was granted a post office in 1877, although it was located in Lee County. It was moved to Bastrop County in 1879, but closed and reopened again in Lee County, only to finally move back to Bastrop County in 1883. By 1884, the town had a population of 75, two churches, a steam gristmill, a cotton gin, and a district school. Bastrop County is located in the U.S. state of Texas. It is in Central Texas and its county seat is Bastrop. As of the 2020 census, the population was 97,216. Bastrop County is included in the Austin–Round Rock, Texas, metropolitan statistical area. Paige is an unincorporated community in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. Paige has a post office with the ZIP code 78659. Namesake Paige, Texas was named after Paige Broderick, a civil engineer who planned the route of Houston and Texas Central Railway. History Paige was created in 1872 near the Houston and Texas Central Railway. The post office of Paige was created in 1874, and in 1876, the railway station near the town was moved three miles east to the location of the current station. In 1877, Fedor Soder arrived in the town and sold many town lots to Germans. He also created a store and a cotton gin, as the town was growing due to massive production of cotton in the area. The population of Paige in 1884 was about 350 citizens, and it jumped to 500 in 1886. Bastrop () is a city and the county seat of Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,688 according to the 2020 census. It is located about southeast of Austin and is part of the Greater Austin metropolitan area. History Spanish soldiers lived temporarily at the current site of Bastrop as early as 1804, when a fort was established where the Old San Antonio Road crossed the Colorado River and named ''Puesta del Colorado''. Bastrop's namesake, Felipe Enrique Neri, Baron de Bastrop, was a commoner named Philip Hendrik Nering Bogel, who was wanted for embezzlement in his native country of the Netherlands.
