Grant Tregoning
Grant Tregoning (born 26 January 1988) is former international motorcycle speedway rider from New Zealand. Career Tregoning began riding speedway at Moore Park in Christchurch when he was 13 years old. He won the New Zealand under-21 championship for the first time when he was 16 and won it again in the 2007–08 and 2008–09 seasons. He was offered a place in the Mildenhall Fen Tigers team in 2008 but due to a delay with his visa was unable to take his place. However, he was able to travel to Europe in May to compete in a World under-21 qualifying round in Norden, and after this rode in two meetings in England for the Buxton Hitmen in the Conference League. In 2009, he rode for the Newport Hornets in the National League where he achieved a 6.81 average for the season. In August he paired with Tony Atkin to win the National League Pairs Championship. Buxton Hitmen
The Buxton Hitmen were a speedway team in the British National League (formerly the Conference League) from 1994 to 2018. The club stopped racing in the National League after the 2018 speedway season. History The team's inaugural season was in the 1994 British League Division Three in which they finished in 6th place. They following year they finished 3rd in the 1995 Academy League before joining the Conference League (division 3). During the 2002 Speedway Conference League season the team won their first silverware when winning the Conference League Knockout Cup. In the 25 years that the team raced they always competed in the third division and their best season was 2010 when they achieved the treble. After finishing 2nd in the regular season table behind Dudley Heathens during the 2010 National League speedway season they won the playoffs, defeating Newport in the final. Newport Wasps
Newport Wasps were a British motorcycle speedway team based in Newport, South Wales from 1964 to 2012. They were the 1999 Conference League champions. The Wasp logo incorporates the traditional black and amber colours of the City of Newport. History 1964–1977 Newport Wasps first competed in the 1964 Provincial Speedway League (division 2), they finished a creditable fourth and also won the division 2 version of the Knockout Cup, when winning the Provincial League Knockout Cup during their debut season. The following season they joined the inaugural British League season (the top division) and would remain in the top division until 1977. The team weas based at the now-defunct Somerton Park stadium, which was also the home of football and greyhound racing. The tight speedway track meant that turf had to be brought on to make the corner flag area for football matches and removed once the match had finished. National League Pairs Championship
The National League Pairs Championship is a motorcycle speedway contest for tier three clubs in the United Kingdom. The Championship is between the top two riders from each club competing in the National League (speedway), National League. The meetings comprise a competition between teams of two riders drawn into two qualifying groups. Rules Gate positions In the ''Qualification Heats'', riders are allocated starting gates. For the ''Semi-Finals'', the group winners have first choice of gate positions (A&C or B&D). Gate A is on the inside of the track, whilst Gate D is on the outside. For the ''Final'', the gate positions (A&C and B&D) are decided by the toss of a coin. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Mildenhall Fen Tigers
The Mildenhall Fen Tigers are a British speedway team, founded in 1975 and currently riding in the National Development League. History 1971–1989 The original track was built in 1971 on farm land owned by Terry Waters, with chef Bernie Klatt the driving force behind establishing speedway in Mildenhall.Butt, Randall (1980) "Dream Come True", ''Speedway Star'', 15 November 1980, p. 7 Klatt had been the head chef at the officers club at the nearby air force base, and later established a restaurant at the track. Jason Bunyan
Jason Michael Bunyan (born 9 March 1979 in Milton Keynes) is a former England under-21 international motorcycle speedway rider from England. He is a ten times champion of New Zealand. Racing career He won the New Zealand Championship from 2004 to 2006, 2008 to 2010, 2012 to 2014 and 2016. The ten wins broke the previous record of nine wins held by Larry Ross. Bunyan began his British leagues career when signing for Poole Pirates for the 1995 Premier League speedway season. After a season with Oxford Cheetahs he moved to join the Isle of Wight Islanders from 1997 to 1998. He spent three seasons with Ipswich Witches from 1999 to 2001 and two seasons with Coventry from 2003 to 2004 before turning his attention to New Zealand after every British season. Speedway Grand Prix Of New Zealand
The New Zealand Speedway Grand Prix is a motorcycle speedway race part of the Speedway Grand Prix. The event is held at the Western Springs Stadium in Auckland. Western Springs is a permanent speedway venue which generally caters to car racing such as Sprintcars and Midgets, though it has also hosted Motorcycle speedway on many occasions, including 15 times as host of the New Zealand Individual Speedway Championship. At in length, Western Springs, which hosted the opening round of the SGP from 2012–2014, was one of the longest tracks used in the 25-year history of the series.
