First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. Simon Base
Simon Base (born 1960) is a retired English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler who played first-class cricket between 1981 and 1999. Base was born in Maidstone, Kent, but first represented Western Province South Africa in 1981 before moving back to England to commence his county career; He initially played for Glamorgan in 1986 and later Derbyshire. He also played for Boland and Border Provinces in South Africa. Kim Barnett
Kim John Barnett (born 17 July 1960) is a former English cricketer. Barnett was a batsman who played internationally for England between 1988 and 1989. He was primarily a batsman, but could also deploy effective leg spin, and topped the English first-class bowling averages in 1994 with 13.30, albeit with only thirteen wickets to his name. Barnett was named one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1989. Domestic career He mainly played for Derbyshire, from 1979 to 1998 and Gloucestershire from 1999 to 2002. He also played for South African teams Boland and Impalas. Barnett played the bulk of his county cricket career for Derbyshire, and was captain between 1983 and 1995. Eddie Barlow
Edgar John Barlow (12 August 1940 – 30 December 2005) was a South African cricketer (an all rounder). Barlow was born in Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa, and played first-class cricket for Transvaal and Eastern Province from 1959–60 to 1967–68 before moving to Western Province for the seasons from 1968–69 to 1980–81. During this time he also played three seasons with Derbyshire in the English County Championship from 1976 – 1978. He completed his first-class career in Boland in 1982–83. Barlow was named as one of the six ''South African Cricket Annual'' players of the year in 1962.
