Granitsa, Kyustendil Province
Granitsa ( bg, Граница, ; also transliterated ''Granica'' or ''Granitza'') is a village in southwestern Bulgaria, part of Kyustendil Municipality, Kyustendil Province. Granitsa lies in a hilly valley in the eastern Osogovo mountains. It is bisected by a ravine, the bed of a rivulet which goes almost dry in the summer and autumn. Granitsa includes several neighbourhoods: Yakimova, Dzhoneva, Gorchovska, Efendiyska and Antova. The village was first mentioned in Vladislav the Grammarian's account of 1448: ПРИ ВЄЛБОУЖДИ НА СЕЛѢ НѢКОТОРЄМИ ЖИВОУЩЄ, ГРАНИЦА ЖЄ ОУБО ТОМОУ ПРОЗВАНѤ ИМОУЩОУ. Granitsa, Evrytania
Granitsa ( el, Γρανίτσα from the Slavic word for "border") is a mountain village and a community in Evrytania, Greece. It is situated at 720 meters elevation, on a mountain slope above the river Granitsiotis. It is built in the forested lower regions of Mount Liakoura. Granitsa was the seat of the municipality of Aperantia. The community consists of the villages Granitsa, Ano Potamia, Kato Potamia and Armampela. The village preserves its old appearance. It is 82 kilometers northwest of Karpenisi. Granitsa is the birthplace of artists such as Stefanos Granitsas, Demosthenis Goulas, and Michael Stafylas. It is also the home of Michael Mavroudis, who became a martyr after he was killed in 1544. Granitsa had seventeen churches, most of which were destroyed during Ottoman rule. Stefanos Granitsas
Stefanos Granitsas () (1880–1915) was a Greek writer and a journalist. His work was historical, about folklore, literature, sociology, and theatre. Stefanos was born in Granitsa, Evrytania in 1880. He wrote several papers of the time, stories and others from his hometown. He wrote for ''Chronos'', '' Estia'' and ''Patris'' newspapers. Granitsas fought as a sublieutenant in the Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913. Among his works were many poems, the theatrical work ''Mitroussis'' ( el, Μητρούσης) and ''The Wild and the Day of the Mountains and the Hills'' ( el, Τα άγρια και τα ήμερα του βουνού και του λόγγου), a book of stories from the folklore traditions of the area related to animals.
