Edward John Granet
Brigadier-General Edward John Granet CB (August 1858 – 22 October 1918) was a British Army general. He had a long career serving in the field in the Second Anglo-Afghan War and in the 1884 Nile Expedition. He later became a staff officer and served as Deputy Assistant Adjutant General for intelligence in the Second Boer War. Granet became military attaché to the British Embassy in Rome and Berne in 1911 and played a vital role in providing military intelligence out of Switzerland at the start of the First World War. At his instigation an air raid was carried out by British forces from southern France against a German hydrogen factory and zeppelin depot near to the Swiss border. This was successfully carried out and resulted in severe damage to the facility. Granet returned to action in 1915 commanding the artillery of the 11th (Northern) Division at Gallipoli. François Marius Granet (17 December 1775 – 21 November 1849) was a French painter. Biography François Marius Granet was born on 17 December 1775 in Aix-en-Provence; his father was a small builder. As a boy his strong desires led his parents to place him, after some preliminary teaching from a passing Italian artist, in a free school of art directed by M. Constantin, a landscape painter of some reputation. In 1793, Granet followed the volunteers of Aix to the siege of Toulon, where he obtained employment as a decorator in the arsenal. Whilst a lad he had, at Aix, made the acquaintance of the young comte de Forbin, and upon his invitation Granet, in the year 1797, went to Paris. De Forbin was one of the pupils of David, and Granet entered the same studio. Sir William Guy Granet, GBE (13 October 1867 – 11 October 1943) trained as a barrister but became a noted railway administrator, first as general manager of the Midland Railway then as a director-general in the War Office. Biography Guy Granet was the second son of William Augustus Granet and his wife Adelaide Julia Granet, ''née'' Le Mesurier. He was born in Genoa, where his father was a banker. His older brother was British army officer Edward John Granet. He was educated at Rugby School and Balliol College, Oxford (Modern History, 1889) and was called to the bar in 1893 at Lincoln's Inn. Marcel Granet (29 February 1884 – 25 November 1940) was a French sociologist, ethnologist and sinologist. As a follower of Émile Durkheim and Édouard Chavannes, Granet was one of the first to bring sociological methods to the study of China. Granet was revered in his own time as a sociological sinologist, or sinological sociologist, and member of the Durkheimian school of sociology. Biography Granet was born in Luc-en-Diois (Drôme), France. His father was an engineer, and his grandfather, a landowner. Bert Granet (July 10, 1910 – November 15, 2002) was an American writer and television producer whose credits included ''The Locket'' (1946) for RKO Radio Pictures. Granet worked with Desilu Productions and was instrumental in getting Rod Serling's ''The Twilight Zone'' on the air in the late 1950s when he produced his successful pilot pitch ''The Time Element'' for ''Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse''.
