Grand General (band)
Grand General (initiated 2010 in Trondheim as Kenneth Kapstad Group) are a Norwegian jazz-fusion band that consists of drummer Kenneth Kapstad (former member of Gåte and Motorpsycho), bassist Trond Frønes, keyboardist Erlend Slettevoll, guitarist Even Helte Hermansen, and violinist Ola Kvernberg. Biography This is another heavy Norwegian fusion quintet becoming Grand General after premiering as the Kenneth Kapstad Group at the Trondheim Jazzfest in 2010. In addition to Kapstad, the band comprises bassist Trond Frønes, a fellow member of the metal band Goat The Head, and contemporary jazz musicians like violinist Ola Kvernberg, pianist Erlend Slettevoll and guitarist Even Helte Hermansen known from the jazz rock band Bushman's Revenge and also a collaborator on the jazz metal album ''Blackjazz'' by Shining among other collaborations. ''All About Jazz'' is a website established by Michael Ricci in 1995. A volunteer staff publishes news, album reviews, articles, videos, and listings of concerts and other events having to do with jazz. Ricci maintains a related site, ''Jazz Near You'', about local concerts and events. The Jazz Journalists Association voted ''All About Jazz'' Best Website Covering Jazz for thirteen consecutive years between 2003 and 2015, when the category was retired. ''Grand General'' (released 1 Feb 2013 in Oslo, Norway by label Rune Grammofon – RCD2139) is a Jazz rock album by the new Norwegian band Grand General, with violinist Ola Kvernberg. Review This album is a heavy and melodic revelation from the new band Grand General consisting of some very prolific musicians from the Norwegian prog, jazz, rock scene. They started out as Kenneth Kapstad Group giving some gigs with this impressive lineup and is out with a more fitting name for their debut album. With the much gifted violinist Ola Kvernberg, who was awarded Jazz Spellemannprisen, the Norwegian Grammy, for his album ''Liarbird'' (2011). The Mahavishnu Orchestra were a jazz fusion band formed in New York City in 1971, led by English guitarist John McLaughlin. The group underwent several line-up changes throughout its history across its two periods of activity, from 1971 to 1976 and from 1984 to 1987. Dixie Dregs
The Dixie Dregs is an American rock band from Augusta, Georgia. Formed in 1970, the band's performance consists entirely of instrumentals that fuse elements of diverse genres such as rock, classical music, country, jazz and bluegrass into an eclectic sound that is difficult to categorize. Recognized for their virtuoso playing, the Dixie Dregs were identified with the southern rock, progressive rock and jazz fusion scenes of the 1970s. In 1975, the band recorded their demo album ''The Great Spectacular'' and self-released it in the following year in a limited pressing. Steve Morse
Steve J. Morse (born July 28, 1954) is an American guitarist, best known as the founder of the Dixie Dregs and as the lead guitarist of Deep Purple from 1994 to 2022. Morse has also enjoyed a successful solo career and was briefly a member of the group Kansas in the mid-1980s. Most recently, Morse became a member of the supergroup Flying Colors. Biography Early life Steve Morse was born in Hamilton, Ohio. His family soon moved to Tennessee and then to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Morse spent his childhood. Although familiar with piano and clarinet, Morse ultimately became a guitarist.
