Grand-Remous
Grand-Remous is a town and municipality in La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada. The municipality is south of the Baskatong Reservoir, spanning both sides of the Gatineau River. The town is situated at the intersection of Route 117 and Route 105. "''Grand-Remous''" is French for "great eddy" and is a reference to a large whirlpool on the Gatineau River near the Grand Remous Chute. This name matches the Atikamekw name "''Obémiticwang''", also meaning "choppy waters" or "big stir." Its territory consists of low hills which vary between and above sea level, and which are partly cleared, mostly around Grand-Remous and along highway 105. Quebec Route 105
Route 105 is a north-south highway in Quebec, Canada. It runs from Hull, Quebec, Hull (now part of Gatineau), where it is known as Boulevard Saint-Joseph (until the limits with Chelsea, Quebec, Chelsea), to Grand-Remous, Quebec, Grand-Remous where it ends at Quebec Route 117, Route 117. Route 105 runs mostly in the Gatineau River valley, where it is characterized by twisty and hilly sections. Besides Hull, the only other significant town along the route is Maniwaki, Quebec, Maniwaki. Quebec Route 117
Route 117, the Trans Canada Highway Northern Route, is a provincial highway within the Canadian province of Quebec, running between Montreal and the Quebec/Ontario border where it continues as Highway 66 east of McGarry, Ontario. It is an important road since it is the only direct route between southern Quebec and the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region. Route 117 was formerly Route 11 and ran from Montreal north towards Mont-Laurier and then followed the Gatineau River south towards Gatineau. This routing is joined with Autoroute 15 from Montreal northwards towards Mont Tremblant. Route 117 also takes in the former Quebec Routes 58 and 59. Mont-Laurier () is a town and incorporated municipality in northwest Quebec, Canada, located on the banks of the Lièvre River (''Rivière du Lièvre''), a tributary of the Ottawa River. Gatineau (provincial Electoral District)
Gatineau is a provincial electoral district in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes parts of the city of Gatineau as well as Val-des-Monts, Cantley and La Pêche. It was created from parts of Hull for the 1931 election. Ferme-Neuve
Ferme-Neuve (French for "New Farm") is a municipality part of the Antoine-Labelle Regional County Municipality, in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada. It is the largest incorporated municipality of the Laurentides region. The village is located on the shores of the Du Lièvre River and Journalists Lake, and along Quebec Route 309, about north of Mont-Laurier. In 1850, the James MacLaren logging company built a large tree farm called "La Ferme de la Montagne" that was used as a supply camp for loggers. Louis-Victor Sicotte
Louis-Victor Sicotte, (November 6, 1812 – September 5, 1889) was a lawyer, judge and politician in Lower Canada. He was born Louis Cicot in Boucherville, Lower Canada in 1812. He studied law and was called to the bar in 1839. He helped found the Aide-toi, le Ciel t’aidera (God helps those who help themselves) society, which is credited with introducing the celebration of Fête nationale du Québec, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day for French Canadians, and was also its secretary-treasurer. He supported the Patriotes but apparently took no part in the Lower Canada Rebellion, Rebellions of 1837–38. He believed, correctly as it turned out, that rebellion would lead only to an imposed union with Upper Canada. In 1838, he set up a practice in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Saint-Hyacinthe. Baskatong Reservoir
The Baskatong Reservoir (french: Réservoir Baskatong) is a man-made lake in western Quebec, Canada. It was formed following the construction of the Mercier Dam ( fr) in 1927 and has an area of 413 km2. Since 2007, a 55 MW generating station is in operation at the site of the dam, the reservoir also being used to control the flow of the Gatineau River for several hydroelectric generating stations downstream. Its primary source is the Gatineau River.
