Gramercy Mansion
Gramercy Mansion is a historic mansion in Stevenson, Maryland, United States, located on Greenspring Valley Road near Stevenson University. It was built in 1902 by Alexander J. Cassatt, president of the Pennsylvania Railroad and brother of the American Impressionist painter, Mary Cassatt. Gramercy Mansion was presented as a wedding gift to Cassatt's daughter, Eliza. Later owners included the prominent Brewster family, one of whom became a senator from Maryland. In the 1950s the estate became home to the Koinonia Foundation, a predecessor of the Peace Corps. Koinonia established the first organic farm in Maryland, which has been continuously operated since 1950. In 1985, Anne and Ron Pomykala purchased and restored the mansion, carriage house, houses and outbuildings and installed formal gardens. Stevenson, Maryland
Stevenson is an unincorporated community located in the Green Spring Valley in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. From 1830 until 1955, this community was served by the Green Spring Valley Branch of the old Northern Central Railway (later part of the Pennsylvania Railroad). Primarily a residential area, it is the site of the main campus of Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College), which also has a campus in Owings Mills. Greenspring Valley Road
Maryland Route 130 (MD 130) is a state highway located in Baltimore County in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known as Greenspring Valley Road, the state highway runs from MD 140 in Garrison east to MD 25 in Brooklandville. MD 130 passes through the Green Spring Valley, an affluent area around the upper reaches of Jones Falls that contains Stevenson University. The state highway was paved by 1910 except for a gap near Stevenson that was closed in the mid-1930s. Route description MD 130 begins at an intersection with MD 140 (Reisterstown Road) in Garrison. Stevenson University is a private university in Baltimore County, Maryland with two campuses, one in Stevenson and one in Owings Mills. The university enrolls approximately 3,615 undergraduate and graduate students. Formerly known as Villa Julie College, the name was changed to Stevenson University in 2008. Mary Cassatt
Mary Stevenson Cassatt (; May 22, 1844June 14, 1926) was an American painter and printmaker. She was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania (now part of Pittsburgh's North Side), but lived much of her adult life in France, where she befriended Edgar Degas and exhibited with the Impressionists. Cassatt often created images of the social and private lives of women, with particular emphasis on the intimate bonds between mothers and children. Grey Rock Mansion is a historic mansion in Pikesville, Maryland, United States, located at 400 Grey Rock Road. The original property was improved in the late 1850s on what was the ancestral homestead of John Eager Howard with a large Italian country estate mansion.
