Graham Moore (footballer)
Graham Moore (7 March 1941 – 9 February 2016) was a Welsh former footballer. During a 16-year playing career, he made over 400 appearances in The Football League, scoring 61 goals, and attained 21 caps for Wales. Early life Moore was born in Hengoed and attended Gilfach Primary and Bargoed Secondary schools. After leaving school he began working alongside his father and brother at Penallta Colliery. Club career In 1956, Moore joined Bargoed YMCA, where he spent one year playing for the club's under-16 side before he was spotted by Cardiff City, joining the club along with teammates Tommy Mills and Graham Franklin. After playing for a year in the reserve side, he made his debut for the club at 17, scoring a last-minute equaliser in a 2–2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in September 1958. Hengoed
Hengoed () is a village on the west side of the Rhymney Valley - between Ystrad Mynach to the south and Cefn Hengoed to the north. Across the valley it looks towards Maesycwmmer. The village is in the county borough of Caerphilly, in the traditional county of Glamorgan, Wales. The name literally means 'old wood' in the Welsh language. The electoral ward of Hengoed includes the villages of Hengoed and Cefn Hengoed and a part of Tir-y-Berth in the north west. The ward population was recorded at 5,548 in the 2011 census, an increase of 10% over the previous 10 years (2001 = 5,046), due in part to several new-build housing developments in the ward between 2001 and 2011. Cap (sport)
In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. BBC Wales Sports Personality Of The Year
The BBC Cymru Wales Sports Personality of the Year is a televised sporting competition, broadcast on BBC Two every year; and the most prestigious annual sport award in Wales.
