Graham Jones (politician)
Graham Peter Jones (born 3 March 1966) is a Labour Party (UK), British Labour Party politician, and former Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for Hyndburn (UK Parliament constituency), Hyndburn. Early life and education Jones was brought up in Baxenden, attending St John's CofE Primary School, Baxenden, and St Christopher's Church of England High School, Accrington, St Christopher's Church of England High School, Accrington. He attended Accrington and Rossendale College, studying A levels. After three years at college, Jones was employed for Blackburn with Darwen Council on refuse collection, and by Lancashire County Council as a carer home assistant. Jones attended the University of Central Lancashire, to study an BA (Hons) in Applied Social Studies. 2009 Lancashire County Council Election
A whole-council election to Lancashire County Council took place on 4 June 2009 as part of the 2009 United Kingdom local elections. The United Kingdom government department Department for Communities and Local Governmentbr>consultedon the issue of moving the elections to the same date as the 2009 European Parliament election, which resulted in the council elections being postponed to June to coincide. 84 councillors were elected for 84 divisions by first-past-the-post' for a four-year term of office. Hyndburn
Hyndburn is a local government district with borough status in Lancashire, England. Its council is based in Accrington and covers the outlying towns of Clayton-le-Moors, Great Harwood, Oswaldtwistle and Rishton. The borough was created in 1974 and takes its name from the River Hyndburn. It had a population of 80,734 at the 2011 Census. Elections to Hyndburn Borough Council were held on 1 May 2008. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. Overall turnout was 37.9%. Accrington Railway Station
Accrington railway station serves the town of Accrington in Lancashire, England. It is a station on the East Lancashire line east of Blackburn railway station operated by Northern. It is also served by Caldervale Line express services between Blackpool North, Leeds and York. History The station was opened on 10 June 1848 by the East Lancashire Railway, which amalgamated with the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway in 1859. Taken into the London, Midland & Scottish Railway during the Grouping of 1923, the line then passed on to the London Midland Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948. Accrington Pals
The Accrington Pals, officially the 11th (Service) Battalion (Accrington), East Lancashire Regiment, was a pals battalion of Kitchener's Army raised in and around the town of Accrington during the First World War. History Recruiting was initiated by the mayor of Accrington following Lord Kitchener's call for volunteers, and it took only ten days to raise a complete battalion. The battalion's nickname is somewhat misleading since of the four 250-strong companies that made up the original battalion, only one was actually composed of men from Accrington. The rest volunteered from other nearby East Lancashire towns such as Burnley, Blackburn, and Chorley. The men from Chorley, who formed Y Company, were known as the Chorley Pals. Blackburn
Blackburn () is an industrial town and the administrative centre of the Blackburn with Darwen borough in Lancashire, England. The town is north of the West Pennine Moors on the southern edge of the Ribble Valley, east of Preston and north-northwest of Manchester.
