Graham Fletcher (diplomat)
Graham Fletcher is an Australian diplomat who currently serves as the Australian Ambassador to China since August 2019. Career Fletcher received a Bachelor of Arts (honours) from the University of Sydney. He joined the Department of Foreign Affairs of Australia in 1983. Fletcher has been described by ABC News as "a top China specialist who has served three postings in China as an Australian diplomat and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese". He has held the positions of Third Secretary, Beijing (1986–1988); Deputy Consul-General, Nouméa (1992–1994); Counsellor, Beijing (1997–2000); Deputy Head of Mission, Beijing (2004–2008); Head of DFAT North Asia Division (2008–2010; 2015–2019); and Deputy Head of Mission, Washington, D.C. The Ambassador of Australia to China is an officer of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the head of the Embassy of the Commonwealth of Australia to the People's Republic of China (PRC). The China–Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) is a bilateral trade, bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the governments of Australia and People's Republic of China, China. Since negotiations began, 21 negotiating rounds have been completed. The deal was completed on 17 November 2014 and details released two days later, nearly 10 years after its first round of negotiations that began on 23 May 2005 after a joint feasibility study. Jan Adams (diplomat)
Jan Elizabeth Adams (born 1963) is a senior Australian public servant who has served as the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade since July 2022. Adams is also a former Australian diplomat who served as the Australian Ambassador to Japan since October 2020. She was previously the Australian Ambassador to China from February 2016 to August 2019. Early life and education Adams, born in 1963, grew up in Wodonga, Victoria. She studied economics and law at Monash University in Melbourne. She completed her economics studies in 1986 with a Bachelor of Economics (honours).
