Graham Dempster
Graham Dempster (born 14 January 1955) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Sydney Swans, South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1970s. Recruited from Victorian Football Association (VFA) club Springvale Football Club, Springvale, Dempster spent much of his time at South Melbourne in defence but was also used up forward to good effect later in his VFL career. After making his debut as a 17-year-old in 1972 VFL season, 1972, Dempster played only 25 games in his first four seasons, but made 18 appearances in 1976 VFL season, 1976. He kicked a career best five goals in a win over Footscray Football Club, Footscray at Western Oval in 1977, having also kicked four goals the previous week. His last game of the year was an elimination final, the only final he would play for South Melbourne. Sean Dempster
Sean Dempster (born 20 January 1984) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Sydney Swans and St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Born in 1984, Dempster grew up in the Victorian town of Mallacoota. As there was no football club in the town, Dempster played junior football with the Snowy Rovers Football Club in Orbost. He later playing with Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup before being recruited by the Sydney Swans in the 2002 national AFL draft under the father–son rule – his father, Graham Dempster, having played 64 games for South Melbourne Football Club between 1972 and 1979. Whitten Oval (also known as Victoria University Whitten Oval under a naming rights agreement) is a stadium in the inner-western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in Barkly Street, West Footscray. It is the training and administrative headquarters of the Western Bulldogs (formerly the Footscray Football Club), which competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). 1976 VFL Season
The 1976 VFL season was the 80th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 3 April until 25 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. The premiership was won by the Hawthorn Football Club for the third time, after it defeated by 30 points in the 1976 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1976, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus two substitute players, known as the 19th man and the 20th man. A player could be substituted for any reason; however, once substituted, a player could not return to the field of play under any circumstances.
