Graham County is a county in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Arizona. As of the 2020 census, the population was 38,533, making it the third-least populous county in Arizona. The county seat is Safford. Graham County composes the Safford, Arizona Micropolitan Statistical Area. The county is home to several organizations including Eastern Arizona College and the Mount Graham International Observatory, which includes one of the world's largest and most powerful telescopes. Graham County is also home to the Arizona Salsa Trail and the annual Salsa Fest. Graham County contains part of the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. History Joseph Knight Rogers, an early settler in the area, and a member of the Arizona Territorial Legislature, is known as the father of Graham County. State Route 366 (SR 366) is a highway in Graham County, Arizona that runs from its junction with US 191 south of Safford to near the summit of Mount Graham. It is a winding mountain road with one half primarily a northwest-southeast route, the other half being northeast-southwest. Route description SR 366 is a highway that connects Mount Graham with US 191 (originally US 666) at Swift Trail Junction south of Safford. The western terminus of the highway is located near a ranger station near the peak of Mount Graham. The highway heads in a southeastern route as it descends the mountain. There are several hair pin turns as the highway follows the terrain. At Turkey Flat, the highway goes through a series of five hair pin turns. Route description The eastern terminus of SR 266 is located on US 191 south of Safford. The highway heads southwest from this intersection before curving towards the west. It briefly curves towards the northwest before curving back towards the west and arriving in Fort Grant. The highway continues towards the west to its western terminus in Bonita. US 191
U.S. Route 191 (US 191) is a spur of U.S. Route 91 that has two branches. The southern branch runs for from Douglas, Arizona on the Mexican border to the southern part of Yellowstone National Park. The northern branch runs for from the northern part of Yellowstone National Park to Loring, Montana, at the Canada–US border. Unnumbered roads within Yellowstone National Park connect the two branches. The highway passes through the states of Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. The highway was designated in 1926 and its routing has changed drastically through the years. The modern US 191 bears almost no resemblance to the original route, which was primarily in the state of Idaho. Most of the current route of US 191 was formed in 1981. Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area
Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area is a National Conservation Area located along the Gila River in southern Graham and Greenlee counties in southeastern Arizona in the United States. Administered by the Bureau of Land Management, the conservation area is approximately in size. Campgrounds and hiking trails are available.
