Anton Graff
Anton Graff (18 November 1736 – 22 June 1813) was an eminent Swiss portrait artist. Among his famous subjects were Friedrich Schiller, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Heinrich von Kleist, Frederick the Great, Friederike Sophie Seyler, Johann Gottfried Herder, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, Moses Mendelssohn and Christian Felix Weiße. His pupils included Emma Körner, Philipp Otto Runge and Karl Ludwig Kaaz. Henry Graff
Henry Franklin Graff (August 11, 1921 – April 7, 2020) was an American historian who served on the faculty of Columbia University from 1946 to 1991, including a period as Chairman of the History Department. Graff specialized in the history of the Presidency of the United States and of American foreign relations. His pioneering “Seminar on the Presidency,” one of Columbia's most popular courses, was attended by President Harry Truman in 1959 and President Gerald Ford in 1989. Graff has twice served as Chairman of the Pulitzer Prize jury in American history. In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Graff to the National Historical Publications Commission, and in 1993 President Bill Clinton appointed Graff to the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Review Board. Laurence Graff
Laurence Graff (born 13 June 1938) is an English jeweller and billionaire businessman, best known as the founder of Graff Diamonds, supplier of jewellery and jewels. Early life Graff was born in Stepney in 1938 into a Jewish family, the son of a Romanian mother, Rebecca Segal, and a Russian father, Harry Graff. His brother Raymond was born in 1947. Career Graff left school and became an apprentice when he was 14. He soon went into partnership with Schindler, a jeweller, repairing rings and creating small pieces of jewellery in a small shop. Randy Lynn Graff (born May 23, 1955) is an American actress and singer. Career Graff was born in Brooklyn, New York City and is a graduate of Wagner College. She is a cousin of actors Todd Graff and Ilene Graff. Graff has been in feature films such as ''Keys to Tulsa'' and ''Rent'' as well as being in television shows such as NBC's ''Law & Order'' a number of times. In addition to film and television, Graff has been in several Broadway shows. She originated the role of Fantine in the musical ''Les Misérables'' when the production opened on Broadway in 1987, which included "I Dreamed a Dream", also on the soundtrack released in 1990. According to Graff, she was the first person to sing "I Dreamed a Dream" in the United States of America. Frederick Graff
Frederick Graff (27 August 1775 – 13 April 1847) was an American hydraulic engineer who designed and built the Fairmount Water Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and invented the fire hydrant. Biography Graff was son to Jacob Graff, Jr., a bricklayer who is noted for renting out the second floor of his house to Thomas Jefferson where he wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Graff began his career as a carpenter but suffered a severe knee injury with a hatchet which left him unable to work as a carpenter and lame for the rest of his life. In 1799, he was hired by Benjamin Henry Latrobe as a draftsman and worked his way up to clerk and superintendent of works. In 1800, Graff was placed in charge of the design and building of the Branch Bank of Deposit in Norfolk, Virginia. Graff was also employed as engineer of the Santee Canal in South Carolina. Gerald Graff (born 1937) is a professor of English and Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He received his B.A. in English from the University of Chicago in 1959 and his Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Stanford University in 1963. He has taught at the University of New Mexico, Northwestern University, the University of California at Irvine and at Berkeley, as well as Ohio State University, Washington University, and the University of Chicago. He has been teaching at the University of Illinois at Chicago since 2000.
