Graeme Gahan
Graeme Arthur Gahan (10 January 1942 – 23 February 2018) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Used mostly as a half back, Gahan spent eight seasons at Richmond. He moved to Tasmania in 1967, captain-coaching Scottsdale. An Orchard Trophy winner in his first year, Gahan steered Scottsdale to a Northern Tasmanian Football Association premiership in 1968. The following season he crossed to Glenorchy as coach and they finished fifth in both of his years in charge. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. Richmond traditionally wears a black guernsey with a yellow sash. The club song, " We're From Tigerland", is well known for its "yellow and black" refrain. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. The league currently consists of 18 teams spread over five of Australia's six states (Tasmania being the exception). Scottsdale Football Club
The Scottsdale Football Club is an Australian rules football club which competed in the old Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) between 1948 and 1986. Scottsdale joined the Northern Tasmanian Football League in 1987. For financial reasons, Scottsdale could no longer field a team in the NTFL and in 2000 switched to the new NTFA, an amateur competition which had been formed four years earlier. Scottsdale, nicknamed ''The Magpies'', currently play in a competition of the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (formed 1996). History Scottsdale were formed in 1889 and although they originally competed in red and white colours, the club switched to black and white once admitted into the NTFA for the 1948 season. Northern Tasmanian Football Association (1886–1986)
The Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) was an Australian rules football competition which ran from 1886 to 1986. In its time it was one of the three main leagues in Tasmania, with the Tasmanian Football League and North West Football Union representing the rest of the state. It was based in the city of Launceston. The three most successful clubs of the old NTFA, Launceston, North Launceston and City-South, went on to compete in the short-lived TFL Statewide League. From 1947 to 1983 the NTFA was a six team competition, in 1984 George Town and Deloraine joined to make eight teams. In 1987, the NTFA merged with the North West Football Union to form the Northern Tasmanian Football League. Glenorchy Football Club
The Glenorchy District Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently playing in the Tasmanian State League and the Southern Football League in Tasmania, Australia. History The club is nicknamed the Magpies after its black and white playing strip, and was originally known as New Town Football Club (wearing a green and white strip) when it started out as a member of the Tasmanian Football League in 1919. New Town changed its name to Glenorchy in 1957 after absorbing the already established club Glenorchy Rovers and relocated its headquarters to KGV Oval at Glenorchy in Hobart's northern suburbs in the same year, playing its first match at the venue on 4 May 1957 against Hobart. The Warragul Football and Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Gulls'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of the same name in the state of Victoria.
