Grab Grab The Haddock
Grab Grab the Haddock was an English indie pop group that was formed in 1984. History When the Marine Girls disbanded in 1983, the band members Jane Fox (bass) and Alice Fox (vocals and percussion) formed Grab Grab the Haddock with Lester Noel (guitar and vocals), Steve Galloway (guitar) and Tim Hall (saxophone and clarinet). The name of the band came from the title of a painting by the artist Bruce McLean. In 2003, the band came top in a listeners poll on the Mark and Lard show on BBC Radio 1 to find the "worst band name of all time". The single "I’m Used Now" was released in 1984 on Cherry Red Records, along with the EP ''Three Songs By Grab Grab the Haddock''. In 1985, A second single "The Last Fond Goodbye" was included in the EP ''Four More Songs By Grab Grab the Haddock''. Hatfield, Hertfordshire
Hatfield is a town and civil parish in Hertfordshire, England, in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield. It had a population of 29,616 in 2001, and 39,201 at the 2011 Census. The settlement is of Saxon origin. Hatfield House, home of the Marquess of Salisbury, forms the nucleus of the old town. From the 1930s when de Havilland opened a factory until the 1990s when British Aerospace closed it, aircraft design and manufacture employed more people there than any other industry. ''Pillows & Prayers'' (subtitled ''Cherry Red 1982-1983'') is a compilation album released Christmas 1982, featuring artists on the Cherry Red record label. The record was originally sold at 99 pence (in fact, "pay no more than 99p" was printed on the original sleeve), which helped ensure that the album peaked and remained at number 1 on the UK Indie Chart for five weeks and sold over 120,000 copies. In 2007 the album was repackaged as a 3-CD plus DVD box set featuring complementary tracks from the same period and an extended essay by Alex Ogg. Norman Cook
Norman Quentin Cook (born Quentin Leo Cook, 31 July 1963), also known by his stage name Fatboy Slim, is an English musician, DJ, and record producer who helped to popularise the big beat genre in the 1990s. In the 1980s, Cook was the bassist for the Hull-based indie rock band the Housemartins, who achieved a UK number-one single with their a cappella cover of "Caravan of Love". After the Housemartins split up, Cook formed the electronic band Beats International in Brighton, who produced the number-one single "Dub Be Good to Me". Marc Riley (born 10 July 1961 in Manchester) is an English radio DJ, alternative rock critic, musician, and former music businessman. He currently presents on BBC Radio 6 Music. Mark Radcliffe (radio Broadcaster)
Mark Radcliffe (born 29 June 1958) is an English radio broadcaster, musician and writer. He is best known for his broadcasting work for the BBC, for which he has worked in various roles since the 1980s. Radcliffe began his broadcasting career in local commercial radio in Manchester before a move to the national station BBC Radio 5, where he met and formed a partnership with Marc Riley, a former guitarist with the Fall. In 1991 he moved to BBC Radio 1, closely followed by Riley with whom, under the moniker Mark and Lard, he worked for 11 years on the station. Mark and Lard was the stage name of Mark Radcliffe (Mark) and Marc Riley (Lard), who presented various weekday shows on BBC Radio 1 from 1991 to March 2004. Career Radcliffe, then a Radio 1 producer, began presenting specialist shows on the network in 1991, namely '' Out on Blue Six'', ''The Guest List'' and ''Skyman''. Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Bruce McLean
Bruce McLean (born 1944) is a Scottish sculptor, performance artist and painter. McLean was born in Glasgow and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1961 to 1963, and at Saint Martin's School of Art, London, from 1963 to 1966. At Saint Martin's, McLean studied with Anthony Caro and Phillip King. In reaction to what he regarded as the academicism of his teachers he began making sculpture from rubbish. McLean has produced paintings, sculptures, ceramics, prints, work with film, theatre and books. McLean was Head of Graduate Painting at The Slade School of Fine Art London He has had one man exhibitions including Tate Gallery in London, The Modern Art Gallery in Vienna and Museum of Modern Art, Oxford. Future Radio
Future Radio is a local community radio station serving the city of Norwich, Norfolk. The station is part of local charity Future Projects History Future Radio began broadcasting in May 2004 with its first 28-day Restricted Service Licence (RSL). Six such short-term RSLs were broadcast in total, each on the station's former frequency of 105.1 FM. On 6 August 2007 Future Radio launched its full-time permanent service on 96.9 FM, broadcasting from studios on Motum Road, Norwich.
