Eugène Goyet
Eugène Goyet (February 7, 1798—May 7, 1857), was a French artist. Beginning in 1827 his work was regularly selected for exhibition in the annual Paris Salon. He achieved his greatest success as a painter of religious subjects, with his paintings of Christ and various saints installed in churches and public buildings across France. A successful portrait painter, his most prestigious commission was his 1847 portrait of Pope Pius IX. He was the son of self-taught artist Jean-Baptiste Goyet, and husband of the pastel portrait artist Zoé Goyet. Career Having shown an aptitude for drawing, Goyet was sent at the age of eighteen to Paris to receive formal training. Jean-Baptiste Goyet
Jean-Baptiste Goyet or J.-B. Goyet (10 May 1779 — 20 June 1854) was a self-taught French artist. Beginning in 1827 his work was regularly selected for exhibition in the annual Paris Salon. His genre paintings—variously sentimental, satirical, or historical—reached a wide audience through reproductions using the then-new medium of lithography. His son, Eugène Goyet (1798-1857), also became a painter, with a career that surpassed that of his father. Establishing the Goyet atelier Goyet was a self-taught artist. His first known work was a book he published in 1816 while still living in Chalon-sur-Saône.
