George Goyder
George Woodroffe Goyder (24 June 1826 – 2 November 1898) was a surveyor in the Colony of South Australia during the latter half of the nineteenth century. He rose rapidly in the civil service, becoming Assistant Surveyor-General by 1856 and the Surveyor General of South Australia in 1861. He is remembered today for Goyder's Line of rainfall, a line used in South Australia to demarcate land climatically suitable for arable farming from that suitable only for light grazing, and for the siting, planning and initial development of Darwin, the Northern Territory capital and principal population centre. However, Goyder was an avid researcher into the lands of South Australia (including the present-day Northern Territory) and made recommendations to a great number of settlers in the newly developing colony, especially to those exploiting the newly discovered mineral resources of the state. Margot Neville
Margot Neville was the name adopted by Australian writers Margot Goyder (1896–1975) and her sister Ann or Anne Neville Goyder Joske (1887–1966) for their work: short stories, plays and humorous novels, before they became known for a series of murder mysteries, featuring Inspector Grogan and Detective Sergeant Manning. Much of their work, including some full-length novels, appeared in ''The Australian Women's Weekly'', then the country's foremost publisher of light fiction. The Goyder sisters were members of a family well-known in Melbourne and Launceston, being daughters of Charles Edmund Goyder and granddaughters of Frederick Charles Goyder. Assertions that they were nieces of George Goyder, Surveyor-General of South Australia, can be discounted. For more family details see below. History Their mode of collaboration was unusual — rather than sharing chapters or each taking care of a particular aspect such as dialogue, every word on paper was a shared decision. Throughout t ...

Goyder Crater
Goyder is an impact structure (or astrobleme), the eroded remnant of a former impact crater. It is situated in Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, Australia, and was named after the nearby Goyder River. The impact occurred into Mesoproterozoic sedimentary rocks of the McArthur Basin. The deformed area is exposed at the surface and marked by a 3 km diameter ring of fractured and faulted sandstone, which is interpreted as the eroded relic of a central uplift (material that rebounded within the crater to once form a central peak); the original crater rim, long since removed by erosion, being estimated at approximately 9–12 km diameter. Evidence for an impact origin includes the presence of shatter cones and shocked quartz in outcrops of deformed sandstone at the center of the site. Age The time of impact cannot be accurately constrained, however, it probably happened more recently than 1325 Ma (middle Mesoproterozoic), which is the age of igneous rocks that are i ...
