Alan Gowen
Alan Gowen (19 August 1947 – 17 May 1981) was an English fusion/progressive rock keyboardist, best known for his work in Gilgamesh and National Health. History Gowen was born in North Hampstead, northwest London. He joined Assagai in 1971 before going on to found Sunship in 1972 with Jamie Muir (drums, also from Assagai) and Laurie Baker (bass). The band also included Allan Holdsworth on guitar. He formed Gilgamesh in 1973 and started a collaboration with Hatfield and the North, eventually founding National Health with Hatfield and the North's keyboardist Dave Stewart in 1975. Gowen left National Health in 1977, though returned briefly for the recording sessions of their first album. In 1978, Gowen formed Soft Heap with Elton Dean, Hugh Hopper, and Pip Pyle. With Dave Sheen replacing Pyle, the band toured as Soft Head in the summer of 1978. He also recorded a second Gilgamesh album that year. Bradford Gowen
Bradford Gowen (born November 11, 1946) has received national attention since winning first prize in the 1978 Kennedy Center/ Rockefeller Foundation International Competition for Excellence in the Performance of American Music. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Eastman School of Music where he studied piano with CΓ©cile Staub Genhart and composition with Samuel Adler. He later studied piano with Leon Fleisher and with Dorothy Taubman. After winning the American music prize, Mr. Gowen made his New York recital debut at Alice Tully Hall and recorded an album of American music for New World Records; in Spring 1998 this recording, Exultation, was re-released as a CD with additional, newly recorded pieces included. Cycalona "Clonie" Gowen (born November 6, 1971) is an American professional poker player, based in Dallas, Texas. Early life Gowen was born in Florida, and grew up in Kiowa, Oklahoma. Her first name was inspired by the fact that she was born while a tornado (cyclone) moved through the region. She won Miss Teen McAlester, Oklahoma, at age 15, and as a teenager moved to Corsicana, Texas. She was a member of the varsity basketball team and placed seventh in state high jump. Poker Gowen was introduced to poker by her boyfriend's father, and started playing while living in Dallas, driving to Shreveport, Louisiana, on the weekends. She finished tenth in a World Poker Tour (WPT) event in late 2002, before gaining national recognition in 2003, winning the televised WPT Ladies' Night event. James Robert Gowen
James Robert Gowen (1784β1862) was an amateur English botanist and horticulturist, who was secretary of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) from 1845 to 1850, treasurer until 1855, a landowner in the Wairau Valley in 1848, was still paying rates in Nelson in 1862 and was a director of the New Zealand Company from 1840 to 1854. He was a lay member of the Lunacy Commission from 1842 to 1844 and patron of the Nelson Agricultural and Horticultural Society in 1845. The RHS lists 12 rhododendron varieties created by Gowen between 1826 and 1842 at Highclere Castle, on the Berkshire-Hampshire border, the home of the second Earl of Carnarvon, who was RHS Vice-President from 1829 to 1833. James Carton was head gardener at Highclere. At the request of Gowen, Carton's Rhododendron, a variety bred in 1825 was named after the gardener, by Professor John Lindley. John Whittemore Gowen
John Whittemore Gowen (September 5, 1893 β September 14, 1967) was an American biologist and geneticist. Biography Gowen was born in Evinston, Florida, on September 5, 1893, to Charles Hayes and Gertrude Whittemore Gowen. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Maine in 1914 and 1915, respectively. His advisor for his master's degree was Raymond Pearl. In 1917, he received his Ph.D. from Columbia University, where his advisors were Edmund Beecher Wilson and Thomas Hunt Morgan. Gowen then worked as a biologist at the Maine Agricultural Experimental Station until 1926, when he joined the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research as a research associate. In 1937, Gowen joined the faculty of Iowa State College as a professor of genetics. He was head of the Department of Genetics there from 1948 to 1959. In 1964, he retired from Iowa State to become Professor of radiation biology and genetics at Colorado State University, a position he held until his death. ... Zachary Mark Gowen (born March 30, 1983) is an American professional wrestler and promoter. Gowen competed for World Wrestling Entertainment and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Gowen's left leg was amputated when he was eight years old. He is the only one-legged competitor ever to compete in WWE. The airport is operated by the city of Boise Department of Aviation and is overseen by an airport commission.
