__NOTOC__ The governor of Sabaragamuwa, Sri Lanka ( si, සබරගමුව පළාත් ආණ්ඩුකාරවරයා ''Sabaragamuva palāth āndukāravarayā''), is responsible for the management of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council. Some of the office's key functions include exercising powers vested in the governor by the Provincial Council Act No. 42 of 1987 amended by Act No. 28 of 1990 and the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. The flag of Sabaragamuwa Province was adopted for the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka in 1987. Symbolism The flag of the Sabaragamuwa is a dark red flag boarded by yellow edges, like the Sri Lankan Flag it has four yellow bo leaves in the corners and in the middle is a lion holding a whip like object, there are also a sun and a moon either side of the lion. Mohan Saliya Ellawala
Mohan Saliya Ellawala (9 November 1948 – 12 May 2009) was the fifth governor of Sabaragamuwa Province in Sri Lanka from 2 October 2008, until his death in May 2009. He had previously been the seventh Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa serving from 13 December 2001, until 16 July 2004. In 1972 Ellawala became the private secretary to Hector Kobbekaduwa ( Minister for Agriculture and Lands). In 1991 he was appointed as the chief Sri Lanka Freedom Party organiser for the Balangoda Electoral District, and in the same year was elected as councillor on the Balangoda Urban Council, though he resigned from the position on 7 April 1993. In 1993 he was elected onto the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, becoming the chairman of the Council between 17 June 1999 and 8 November 2000. Chief Minister (Sri Lanka)
Chief ministers in Sri Lanka are elected heads of the provincial boards of ministers, bodies which aid and advice the governors, the heads of the provincial government, in the exercise of their executive power. The governor appoints as chief minister a member of the provincial council who, in his opinion, commands the support of a majority of that council. There are nine chief ministerial positions in the country, out of which only six are currently occupied, while 3 are vacant and under the governor's direct rule. Appointment Governor may appoint a chief minister, who would be the leader of the political party that commands the majority of the provincial council. Tikiri Banda Kobbekaduwa is a Sri Lankan politician serving as the 8th Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka since 21 November 2019. Niluka Ekanayake
Niluka Ekanayake is a Sri Lankan politician and astrologer. She was appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena from 17 March 2016 to 11 April 2018 as the 10th Governor of Central Province. She was also appointed as the 9th Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka from 12 April 2018 to 31 December 2018. In January 2019 she was appointed as the Chairman of the State Timber Corporation (STC). Marshal Perera
Bodiyabaduge Marshal Anslem Romanis Perera (1930/1931 – 30 May 2020) ( PC) was a Sri Lankan politician and governor of Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces. He served as Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province, in office between January 2015 and April 2018. He served as Governor of the country's Southern Province from 12 April 2018 to 31 December 2018 and also served as Governor of Uva Province from 9 January 2019 to 3 August 2019. Perera was called to the bar on 15 June 1955 and in July 2006, after fifty years in the legal profession, was appointed as a President's Counsel. He ran a legal practice in the High Court of Uva Province, the Badulla District Court, the Magistrate Courts and Labour Tribunal. Perera's son, Dilan, is the Member of Parliament for Badulla and a former Non-Cabinet Minister of Port Development. Alavi Moulana
Seyed Ahmed Seyed Alavi Moulana (1 January 1932 – 15 June 2016) was a Sri Lankan politician, who entered politics in 1948 as a trade unionist. He was the 5th Governor of Western Province, having assumed office on 1 February 2002. He was a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Cabinet Minister of Labour, and a councillor in the Colombo Municipal Council. He was the Senior Vice-President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and was also a social and religious worker. He also served as acting Governor for Sabaragamuwa in 2009. The ''Daily News'' is an English-language newspaper in Sri Lanka. It is now published by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House), a government-owned corporation. The newspaper commenced publishing on 3 January 1918. D. R. Wijewardena was its founder. The present-day newspaper is written as a broadsheet, with photographs printed both in color and black and white. Navin Dissanayake
Navin Eranjan Dissanayake (born 9 September 1969) is a Sri Lankan politician, and former Minister of Plantation Industries. A former Member of Parliament for United National Party Nuwara Eliya District, he is a son of Gamini Dissanayake a Presidential candidate and grandson of Andrew Dissanayake who served as an MP for the Nuwara Eliya electorate and a deputy minister in the S.
