Governor Of Gagauzia
The Governor of Gagauzia, (''Başkan'' ()), is the highest political position in Gagauzia, an autonomous territorial unit of Moldova. They chair the Executive Committee of Gagauzia and are an ''ex-officio'' member of the Cabinet of Moldova. The position is created by the 14th article of the law on the legal status of Gagauzia No. 344-XIII (December 23, 1994). All state authorities in Gagauzia are subordinate to the Governor. The governor is elected by universal, equal, direct, secret and free suffrage on an alternative basis for a term of 4 years. One and the same person can be a governor for no more than two consecutive terms. They must be a citizen of Moldova over 35 years old and know the Gagauz language. The governor can issue decisions and decrees valid throughout the territory of Gagauzia. Gagauzia or Gagauz-Yeri, or ; ro, Găgăuzia; russian: Гагаузия, Gagauziya officially the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia; ro, Unitatea Teritorială Autonomă Găgăuzia, ''UTAG''; russian: Автономное территориальное образование Гагаузия, Avtonomnoye territoriaľnoye obrazovaniye Gagauziya, АТОГ (ATUG), is an autonomous territorial unit of Moldova. At the end of World War I, all of the territory of Gagauzia became part of the Kingdom of Romania, before being carved up into the Soviet Union in June 1940. Mihail Formuzal (russian: Михаил Формузал; born 7 November 1959, in Beșghioz) is a Moldovan politician of Gagauz ethnicity, who was Governor (Başkan) of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (Gagauz Yeri) from December 2006 to March 2015. Biography Mihail Formuzal was born on 7 November 1959 in Beșghioz, Ceadîr-Lunga District (now Gagauzia), Moldovan SSR, USSR, in a large family of peasants. After graduating from elementary schools (1966-1977) of his native village, in 1977 he was enrolled in the military service, within the USSR's military-maritime fleet. In 1979, he joined the "M.V. Frunze" Upper Artillery Military School in the Odessa (Ukrainian SSR) and graduated it in 1983. He then worked for the USSR's armed forces in various leading positions and in the November 1994, he resigned having the military rank of major. Gagauz Language
Gagauz (, ) is a Turkic language spoken by the Gagauz people of Moldova, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey and it is an official language of the Autonomous Region of Gagauzia in Moldova. Gagauz belongs to the Oghuz branch of Turkic languages, alongside Azerbaijani, Turkmen, and Turkish. Gagauz is a distinct language from Balkan Gagauz Turkish to some degree. Though it was established as a written language in 1957, Gagauz was not used in schools until 1959. Article 13.3 of the Organic Law of Gagauzia describes the coat of arms of Gagauzia as follows:- The coat of arms represents an image of heraldic shield, on the lower part of which there is a yellow (golden) hemisphere of rising sun on blue background.
