Fernand Goux
Fernand Goux (31 December 1899 – 9 November 2008) was, at age 108, the penultimate French World War I veteran, with Pierre Picault being the last. "On a retrouvé un soldat de 1918 vivant". ''Ouest-France'' (19 June 2008). Born in Sceaux-du-Gâtinais, Loiret, Goux was called up for service on 19 April 1918. Goux was deployed behind the front lines with the 85th Infantry Regiment, supplying the troops and burying the dead. On 3 November 1918, he was sent to the front line with the 82nd Infantry Regiment for the last week of the war. This made him one of two remaining trench veterans, along with Englishman Harry Patch. However the French government did not recognize Goux as a ''poilu'' as he fought less than the requisite three months. The last official veteran thus remains Italian-born Lazare Ponticelli, who was buried with state honours on 17 March 2008, with Louis de Cazenave the last recognized native Frenchman to have served. Jules Goux
Jules Goux (6 April 1885 - 6 March 1965) was a French racing driver and Grand Prix motor racing champion. He was also notable for being the first Frenchman, and the first European driver, to win the Indianapolis 500. Biography Influenced by the Gordon Bennett Cup in auto racing, Jules Goux began racing cars in his early twenties. Success came in 1909 on a circuit set up on roads around Sitges, near Barcelona, Spain, when he won the Catalan Cup, a victory he repeated the following year. Because of his racing success, along with Georges Boillot, he was invited by Peugeot Automobile to race for their factory team. As part of a four-man design team led by Paul Zuccarelli and Ernest Henry, Goux helped develop a racecar powered by a radically new Straight-4 engine using a twin overhead cam. Luciano Sebastián Goux (born 27 January 1980) is an Argentinian football player, who plays for Defensores de Belgrano. Career He played the majority of his football in his native Argentina, with a stint in Malaysia in between. He played for Malaysian team Perak FA in the 2004 Super League Malaysia season, and helped Perak to win that year's Malaysia FA Cup, scoring in the final. Marcelo Jesús Goux (born 21 September 1975 in Lanús) is a former Argentine football defender who plays for Gimnasia La Plata. Career Goux started his professional playing career with Huracán on 11 August 1996 in a 2–1 defeat to Ferro Carril Oeste. After a brief stint with Club Nacional de Football of Uruguay he returned to Argentina to play for Colón de Santa Fe. In 2000, he joined Belgrano de Córdoba and in 2002 he joined Gimnasia La Plata where he played 167 league games, he left the club after claims that some Gimnasia fans had made death threats against their own players in order to make them lose a game in order to damage the title chances of local rival Estudiantes de La Plata. He rejoined Colón de Santa Fe in 2007. He retired from active football soccer on June 30, 2012.
