Gouverneur Kemble
Gouverneur Kemble (January 25, 1786 – September 18, 1875) was a two-term United States Congressman, diplomat and industrialist. He helped found the West Point Foundry, a major producer of artillery during the American Civil War. Early life and education Kemble was born in 1786 to a prominent family in New York City, the eldest son of prosperous attorney and merchant Peter Kemble of New Jersey. Ships of the firm Gouverneur & Kemble conducted trade in the West Indies, Europe and China. Kemble was educated in New York and graduated from Columbia College in 1803, then entered the mercantile business. He was friends with Washington Irving and other members of city society, who enjoyed socializing at Cockloft Hall (an old family mansion on the Passaic River which Kemble inherited and was sometimes known as "Salmagundi" or the "Bachelor's Elysium"). Gouverneur Morris
Gouverneur Morris ( ; January 31, 1752 – November 6, 1816) was an American statesman, a Founding Father of the United States, and a signatory to the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution. He wrote the Preamble to the United States Constitution and has been called the "Penman of the Constitution". While most Americans still thought of themselves as citizens of their respective states, Morris advanced the idea of being a citizen of a single union of states. He was also one of the most outspoken opponents of slavery among those who were present at the Constitutional Convention. He represented New York in the United States Senate from 1800 to 1803. Morris was born into a wealthy landowning family in what is now New York City. After attending King's College, now Columbia University, he studied law under Judge William Smith and earned admission to the bar. Gouverneur Morris IV (1876–1953) was an American author of pulp novels and short stories during the early 20th century. Biography Gouverneur Morris IV was born in 1876 and was a great-grandson of American Founding Fathers of the United States, Founding Father Gouverneur Morris. He graduated from Yale University, where he wrote for campus humor magazine ''The Yale Record''. Publications Morris wrote several novels. Gouverneur Frank Mosher (1871 – July 19, 1941) was Episcopal Missionary Bishop of the Philippine Islands. He was born at Stapleton, New York (Staten Island) and studied at Union College, Schenectady and Berkeley Divinity School in Middletown, Connecticut. Véronique Gouverneur (born 8 November 1964 in Geel, Belgium) is the Waynflete Professor of Chemistry at Magdalen College at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Prior to the Waynflete professorship, she held a tutorial fellowship at Merton College, Oxford. Her research on fluorine chemistry has received many professional and scholarly awards. Education Gouverneur obtained her undergraduate degree (a master's degree in chemistry), and then in 1991 her doctorate, from the Université catholique de Louvain.
