The 23rd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project, were held on December 2, 2013. The nominees were announced on October 24, 2013. The ceremony was hosted by Nick Kroll. It is the first Gotham Awards ceremony where the awards for best actor and best actress were given out. Nicholas Kroll (born June 5, 1978) is an American actor, voice actor, comedian, writer, and producer. He is known for creating and starring in the Comedy Central series ''Kroll Show'', ''The Oh, Hello Show'', the FX comedy series ''The League'', and starring in and co-creating the animated Netflix series '' Big Mouth''. ''Sun Don't Shine'' is a 2012 independent thriller film written and directed by Amy Seimetz and starring Kate Lyn Sheil and Kentucker Audley.
