The land of Goshen ( he, אֶרֶץ גֹּשֶׁן, Modern: ''ʾEreẓ Gōšen'', Tiberian: ''ʾEreṣ Gōšen'') is named in the Hebrew Bible as the place in Egypt given to the Hebrews by the pharaoh of Joseph (Book of Genesis, ), and the land from which they later left Egypt at the time of the Exodus. It is believed to have been located in the eastern Nile Delta, lower Egypt; perhaps at or near Avaris, the seat of power of the Hyksos kings. Meaning of the name If the Septuagint reading "Gesem" is correct, the word, which in its Hebrew form has no known meaning, may mean "cultivated"—comparing the Arabic root ''j-š-m'', "to labor". Egyptologists have suggested a connection with the Egyptian word ''qis'', meaning "inundated land". Because Goshen was apparently the same region, called by the Greeks the "Arabian nome," which had its capital at Phakousa. Goshen Road
Goshen Road was an early road that ran from Old Shawneetown, Illinois, on the Ohio River, northwest to the Goshen Settlement, near Glen Carbon, Illinois, near the Mississippi River. In the early 19th century, this was the main east/west road in Illinois. History Goshen Road started as a natural, or pioneer, trace: a route that was used by Native Americans in the United States, Native Americans and migrating animals. The road was not a definite, marked out path. It was, rather, a collection of vague, parallel paths that crossed, shifting with the season and over the years. Goshen County, Wyoming
Goshen County is a county in the U.S. state of Wyoming. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 12,498. Its county seat is Torrington. The eastern boundary of the County borders the Nebraska state line. Goshen County produces more cattle than any other Wyoming county. In 1997, the county had a total of 688 farms and ranches, averaging 1,840 acres. As of 2007, this had declined slightly to 665 farms and ranches in the county. History Goshen County was created in 1911 from a portion of Laramie County. Its government was organized in 1913. Goshen Avenue , also known as Murray Avenue, is one of the principal east–west arterial roads in Visalia, California, United States. It was named after the community of Goshen. The name has a biblical origin and generally has come to mean "land of plenty." Goshen Scout Reservation
Goshen Scout Reservation is a Boy Scout reservation designated to camping, swimming, hiking and other various activities. Goshen is home to six Boy Scouts of America resident summer camps located near Goshen, Virginia, and is owned and operated by the National Capital Area Council. The camps are all built around Lake Merriweather. Opened to Scouts in the summer of 1967, today it has six different camps covering over of land. Within Goshen there are three Boy Scout camps, two Cub Scout camps, and one high adventure camp. Goshen is a town in Rockbridge County, Virginia, United States. The population was 361 in the 2010 census. The town is known for hosting Goshen Scout Reservation, one of the largest Boy Scout camps in America. History Goshen was once inhabited by Indian tribes such as the Cherokee and Shawnee. In the 18th century, European settler, Alexander Dunlop and his wife Anna MacFarlane moved to the Calfpasture. A few of the first settlers include Bratton, Lockridge, Graham, Carter, and Davis. The first Goshen council was headed in 1744 by James Patton and John Lewis. Goshen was based on farms, much like today, raising mainly corn. The Goshen Valley is a valley located in southern Utah County, Utah, and the valley forms part of its southeast border with the Wasatch Front, and parts of the Wasatch Range.
