Gordon Wismer
Gordon Sylvester Wismer (1888 – December 28, 1968) was a lawyer and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Vancouver Centre in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1933 to 1941 and from 1945 to 1952 as a Liberal. He was born in Sutton, Ontario. Wismer served in the provincial cabinet as Attorney General from 1937 to 1941 and from 1946 to 1952 and as Minister of Labour from 1947 to 1949. Wismer was defeated when he ran for reelection in 1941. He was elected to the assembly in the 1945 and 1949 elections as a member of a Liberal-Conservative coalition. In the 1947 provincial Liberal leadership convention, Wismer lost to Byron "Boss" Johnson by 8 votes. While Wismer was Attorney General, in 1950, the British Columbia Provincial Police force was disbanded and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police took over policing in the province. Sutton, Ontario
Sutton is a suburban community located nearly 2 km south of Lake Simcoe in Ontario, Canada. The community was formerly a village but is now part of the Town of Georgina after amalgamation with it and North Gwillimbury in 1971. The Black River runs on the north end of the downtown. The 1945 British Columbia general election was the 21st general election in the Province of British Columbia, Canada. It was held to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The election was called on August 31, 1945, and held on October 25, 1945. The new legislature met for the first time on February 21, 1946. A centre-right coalition was formed by the Liberal and Conservative parties in order to defeat the social democratic Co-operative Commonwealth Federation. Byron Ingemar "Boss" Johnson (born Björn Ingimar Jónsson; December 10, 1890 – January 12, 1964), served as the 24th premier of British Columbia, from 1947 to 1952. To his contemporaries he was often referred to by his nickname, ''Boss Johnson'', which had nothing to do with his personality, but was an anglicization of the Icelandic "Bjossi", which is a diminutive form of his birth-name of Bjorn, which was adapted into English as Byron.
