Gordon MacMurchy
Gordon Samuel MacMurchy (1926-2005) was a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Last Mountain from 1971 to 1975, and Last Mountain-Touchwood from 1975 to 1982, in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. He was a member of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party. He served as a cabinet minister in the government of Allan Blakeney. The son of Edward Gordon MacMurchy and Laura Geiger, he took over the operation of the family farm in 1962. From 1962 to 1971, he served as a trustee for the Govan school unit, also serving two years as chairman. MacMurchy served as Minister of Education, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister of Agriculture in the Saskatchewan cabinet. He was defeated when he ran for reelection to the assembly in 1982. After leaving provincial politics, MacMurchy was mayor of Semans from 1982 to 1997. He ran unsuccessfully in the provincial riding of Last Mountain-Touchwood in 1986. In 1949, he married Jean Neff. Last Mountain (electoral District)
Last Mountain was a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1935. This riding was created in 1914 from parts of Humboldt, Regina and Saskatoon ridings It was abolished in 1933 when it was redistributed into Lake Centre, Melville and Yorkton ridings. The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA; french: Association canadienne de hockey amateur) was the national governing body of amateur ice hockey in Canada from 1914 until 1994, when it merged with Hockey Canada. Allan Blakeney
Allan Emrys Blakeney (September 7, 1925April 16, 2011) was the tenth premier of Saskatchewan from 1971 to 1982, and leader of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP). Early life and career Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Blakeney took his law degree at Dalhousie Law School, winning the gold medal. He was a Rhodes Scholar at Queen's College, Oxford, where he played for the Oxford University Ice Hockey Club. He earned a bachelor's degree, second class, in politics and economics. On returning to Canada, he passed the Nova Scotia bar exam in 1950. He then took a job with the Saskatchewan civil service, eventually becoming a senior civil servant in Saskatchewan, before he entered politics in 1960 and represented part of Regina. He would represent a Regina-based riding without interruption until his retirement in 1988. Blakeney served as a cabinet minister in the governments of Tommy Douglas and Woodrow S. The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting.
