Gordon Coventry
Gordon Richard James Coventry (25 September 1901 – 7 November 1968) was a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Diamond Creek, Victoria
Diamond Creek is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 23 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Nillumbik local government area. Diamond Creek recorded a population of 12,503 at the 2021 census. History There are two ideas about where Diamond Creek got its name. Victoria's Register of Geographic Names says that it was because of the way the stones glistened in the creek water. Local legend says it is because of a bull who was trying to cross a creek. The bull had a diamond shaped white patch on its head and found difficulty crossing the creek. Thus the Bullocky named the town after the bull with the diamond shape on its head and the creek it drowned in. 1933 Sydney Carnival
The 1933 Sydney Carnival was the eighth edition of the Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. The carnival was held in Sydney over an eleven-day period between Wednesday 2 August and Saturday 12 August. During the competition, Queensland broke a 20-game carnival losing streak when they accounted for Canberra by 42 points. The Canberrans were competing in their inaugural Australian National Football Carnival. 1920 VFL Season
The 1920 VFL season was the 24th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured nine clubs, ran from 1 May until 2 October, and comprised a 16-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Richmond Football Club for the first time, after it defeated by 17 points in the 1920 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1920, the VFL competition consisted of nine teams of 18 on-the-field players each, with no "reserves", although any of the 18 players who had left the playing field for any reason could later resume their place on the field at any time during the match. Tom Drummond (footballer)
Thomas "Chick" Taylor Drummond (6 August 1897 – 26 May 1970) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood and South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Drummond was a member of Collingwood premiership teams in 1917 and 1919 and their runner up team in 1920. He represented Victoria at interstate football in 1921 at the Western Australian Football Carnival and again in 1922 against South Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. A wingman, he captained Collingwood in the 1922 VFL season and led the club to the 1922 VFL Grand Final which they lost by 11 points to Fitzroy Football Club. Drummond was initially appointed as coach of the Williamstown Football Club in March, 1923, but owing to a delay in the permit being granted, Charlie Laxton was appointed instead. Tom Wraith
Thomas Watson Wraith (20 March 1890 – 5 December 1970) was an Australian rules footballer and umpire who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Playing career Born in Eaglehawk, Wraith began with Eaglehawk Juniors before moving to the senior Eaglehawk team in the Bendigo Football League in 1911. He made an immediate impression on the forward line coming second in the club goal-kicking for the season. The following year he led the goal-kicking with 21 but Eaglehawk lost the semi-final to California Gully by two points. That Wraith was well held on the day was crucial to Gully's success. Despite both club and personal good form in 1913 Eaglehawk and Wraith fell short of the final again, this time being knocked out by South Bendigo, Wraith kicking two of his side's five goals in the semi-final loss. Ernest Benjamin 'Tich' Utting (31 October 1897 – 21 November 1948) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club and Hawthorn Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
