Gordon Bismarck Cross (January 30, 1911 – January 31, 1993) was an American professor and Academic administration, academic administrator who notably served as president of Nichols College from 1966 to 1973. Career A native of Maine, Cross attended Yarmouth High School (Maine), Yarmouth High School, and went by the nickname "Peck." A former commander in the United States Navy Reserve and employee of such companies as Montgomery Ward and S. S. Kresge Company, Cross received his Bachelor of Arts from Bates College in 1931, and then went on to receive a Master of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Miami and a Doctor of Philosophy in Business from the New York University Stern School of Business in 1956. His dissertation was titled "Customer Satisfaction in Navy Exchanges." In 1959, Cross was named Dean and Professor of Marketing of the University of Hartford Barney School of Business. Yarmouth, Maine
Yarmouth is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States, twelve miles north of the state's largest city, Portland. When originally settled in 1636, as North Yarmouth, it was part of Massachusetts, and remained as such for 213 years. In 1849, twenty-nine years after Maine's admittance to the Union as the twenty-third state, it was incorporated as the Town of Yarmouth. Yarmouth is part of the Portland– South Portland-Biddeford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town's population was 8,990 in the 2020 census. The town's proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, and its location on the banks of the Royal River (formerly ''Yarmouth River''), which empties into Casco Bay less than one mile away, means it is a prime location as a harbor. Ships were built in Yarmouth's harbor mainly between 1818 and the 1870s, at which point demand declined dramatically.
