Gordon Albert Jockel (4 June 192018 September 2015) was an Australian public servant and diplomat A diplomat (from grc, δίπλωμα; romanized ''diploma'') is a person appointed by a state or an intergovernmental institution such as the United Nations or the European Union to conduct diplomacy with one or more other states or internati .... Jockel joined Australia's diplomatic service in 1944. Among other roles, he served in appointments as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Commissioner to Singapore, Ambassador to Indonesia and Ambassador to Thailand. From February 1972 to 1977, Jockel was Director of the Joint Intelligence Organisation. Jockel died on 18 September 2015. Awards In June 1964, Jockel was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. He was promoted to a Commander of the Order in the 1971 Queen's Birthday Honours. Richard John Smith (14 December 1934 – 26 July 2015) was an Australian diplomat. Smith was born in Tamworth, New South Wales and educated at Sydney High School and the University of Sydney. He worked as a teacher in London in the late 1950s, then as a solicitor in New South Wales, before joining the Australian Department of External Affairs in 1961. Marshall Johnston (diplomat)
Marshall Lewis Johnston (20 July 1923 – 31 October 2017) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. Johnston enlisted in the Australian Army in 1941, during World War II. In June 1980 Johnston was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in recognition of his public service as a diplomatic representative. Johnston retired from public service in 1984, his final post was as Australian Ambassador to Greece (1980–1984) and the non-resident High Commissioner to Cyprus (1980-1982). He died in October 2017 at the age of 94.
