Gorbeia Natural Park
The Gorbeia Natural Park ( eu, Gorbeiako natura parkea, es, Parque natural del Gorbeia) is the largest in the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain. The park is located in the municipalities of Orozko, Zeberio and Zeanuri in Biscay and Zigoitia, Zuia and Urkabustaiz in Álava. With a surface area of , it covers the Gorbeia massif, which is the highest summit in Álava and Biscay. The park was established by decree of the Basque Government in 1994. Geography The park is cenetered on mount Gorbeia and the massif of the same name. The summit, with a height of , is the highest in the provinces of Álava and Biscay. Álava
Álava ( in Spanish) or Araba (), officially Araba/Álava, is a province of Spain and a historical territory of the Basque Country, heir of the ancient Lordship of Álava, former medieval Catholic bishopric and now Latin titular see. Its capital city, Vitoria-Gasteiz, is also the seat of the political main institutions of the Basque Autonomous Community. Zigoitia
Zigoitia (, es, Cigoitia ) is a municipality in the province of Álava, in the Basque Country, northern Spain. Its capital is the village of Ondategi. In 2013 the largest common grave from the Spanish Civil War in the Basque Country was excavated in the locality. Zuia
Zuia ( es, Zuya) is a town and municipality located in the province of Álava, in the Basque Country, northern Spain. History The first mention of the Zuia Valley is in the document from the year 1025 (though some authors argue that it is posterior, probably twelfth century), a document conserved in the Monastery of San Millán (La Rioja). The document states that every ten neighbors must deliver a grating iron to a religious institution; according to the document, nine bars correspond to Zuia, 13 to Zigoitia, 12 to Kuartango, etc. In 1752, after repeated attempts, the king approved the establishment of a highway through the valley of Zuia to facilitate communication between Vitoria and Bilbao. Gorbeia
Gorbea () or Gorbeia () is a mountain and massif in the Basque Country, Spain. It is the highest summit in Biscay and Álava, with a height of above sea level. The massif covers a wide area between the two provinces. The main summit is a round grass-covered mountain crowned by a 17-metre-tall metallic cross. Historically, it was one of the five ' of Biscay, from where meetings to the ''Juntas Generales'' of the Lordship of Biscay were announced. To the north of the massif lies the karstic plateau of , an area full of shafts and caves such as . The southern side of the mountain is less craggy, being covered by forests. Basque Government
The Basque Government ( eu, Eusko Jaurlaritza, es, Gobierno Vasco) is the governing body of the Basque Autonomous Community of Spain. The head of the Basque government is known as the ''Lehendakari''. The Lehendakari is appointed by the Basque Parliament every four years, after a regional election.
