Goranboy (city)
Goranboy (also, Geran’boy, Geranboi, Kasum-Ismailov, Kasum-Ismailovo, Kasum-Izmaylovo, and Qasym Ismayylov) is the capital city of the Goranboy District of Azerbaijan. The municipality consists of the city of Goranboy and the nearby villages of Qarasüleymanlı, ÅžahmÉ™mmÉ™dli, Ä°rÉ™vanlı, and ÅžurakÉ™nd. Vougar Aslanov Vugar Aslanov was born in Goranboy, Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is administratively divided into 66 districts () and 11 cities () that are subordinate to the Republic. Goranboy District
Goranboy District ( az, Goranboy rayonu) is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the west of the country and belongs to the Ganja-Dashkasan Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Kalbajar, Tartar, Yevlakh, Samukh, and Goygol. Its capital and largest city is Goranboy. As of 2020, the district had a population of 105,000. During the Soviet era, the region was best known for the oil-cure sanatorium resort of Naftalan, though administratively Naftalan counts as an independent city. Naftalan is now starting to operate again following several years of virtual inaction when the resorts were filled with refugees from the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Vugar Aslanov was born in Goranboy, Azerbaijan. He is a writer and journalist from Azerbaijan. In college he studied literature. By the 1990s he was working in Baku for various newspapers. He and the information agency SÉ™mt (Drift) founded the newspaper, Kompas, which he ran from 1995 to 1998. During that time he edited a book of short stories and also wrote short stories. Many of his stories were published by the writers union of Azerbaijan in its literary magazines. He emigrated from Azerbaijanin in 1998 to Germany. In Germany he was able to continue his journalistic and literary work. He lectured and wrote about the various republics in the former Soviet Union. In 2007 he wrote a book in German called ''The Cotton Fields.''
