Władysław Żeleński (composer)
Władysław Marcjan Mikołaj Żeleński (6 July 1837 – 23 January 1921) was a Polish composer, pianist and organist. Life Żeleński was born in Grodkowice. He was a representative of Neoromanticism (music), neoromanticism in Music of Poland, Polish music. Since early days Żeleński showed interest in chamber music. While in secondary school, he wrote two quartets and a trio that, however, have not survived to our times. Later chamber pieces include: ''Sextet'' in C major, Op. 9 and ''Wariacje na temat własny'' (''Variations on an Original Theme'') for string quartet, Op. 29 Żeleński composed while studying first in Prague and later in Paris. He died in Kraków. Władysław was the father of physician and writer Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński. Balladyna (drama)
''Balladyna'' is a drama written by Juliusz Słowacki in 1834 in Geneva and published in 1839 in Paris. It is a notable work of Polish romanticism, focusing on the issues such as thirst for power and evolution of the criminal mind. The story revolves around the rise and fall of Balladyna, a fictional Slavic queen. One of the most famous and controversial stagings of ''Balladyna'' took place in 1974 at the Grand Theatre in Warsaw. It was directed by Adam Hanuszkiewicz with Anna Chodakowska playing the titular role. The story was set as an opera, ''Goplana'', in 1897. ''Balladyna'' was performed as tragi-comedy in English for the first time in the United Kingdom in November 2018 by Passing Stranger Theatre Company at Drayton Arms Theatre in Kensington, London and directed by Emma Blacklay-Piech, with a Polish actress Anna Krauze in title role. Polish National Opera
The Grand Theatre in Warsaw ( pl, Teatr Wielki w Warszawie), known in full as the Grand Theatre–National Opera, is a theatre and opera complex situated on the historic Theatre Square in central Warsaw, Poland. The Warsaw Grand Theatre is home to the Polish National Ballet and is one of the largest theatrical venues in the world, with a seating capacity of over 2,000. The Warsaw Grand Theatre was inaugurated on 24 February 1833 with a production of Rossini's ''The Barber of Seville''. After the building's bombing and near-complete destruction in World War II, it was rebuilt and reopened on 19 November 1965 after having been closed for over twenty years. Frederick Chopin Institute
The Fryderyk Chopin Institute ( pl, Narodowy Instytut Fryderyka Chopina) is a Polish organization dedicated to researching and promoting the life and works of Polish composer Frédéric Chopin. It was created in 2001 as the result of legislation in the Polish Parliament and is under direct control of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Its headquarters are located in Warsaw. Operas
Opera is a form of theatre in which music is a fundamental component and dramatic roles are taken by singers.
