Gopalkrishna P. Nayak
Gopalkrishna Pandurang Nayak, known as Gaonkar, (3 September 1927 – 5 February 2017) from Torke village was a drama writer in the Kannada language. In 2000, he was awarded Karnataka Sahitya Akademi for his work in drama writings. He was also awarded Yakshgana Sahitya Prashasti. G. P. Nayak was born in Hiregutti village. He earned his high school diploma (1945) from Gibbs High School, Kumta and a B.Sc. degree (1950) from the Karnataka College, Dharwar. After working almost two decades, he retired as head master of Shri Sadguru Nityanand High-School, Sanikatta village. Torke
Torke is a small village in Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, India. This village is about a few square kilometres in extent. Torke traditionally is the amalgamation of Hoskatt, Naranapur, Toregazani, Torke, Devarabhavi, Hallergudi, Devana and Gonehalli. It has a Gram Panchayat. The name "Torke" is supposed to have originated from "tore", the rivulet that used to flow through the village. Local names like "torehalla" and "toregazani" also give credence to this theory. However, since this place is famous for production of salt, and a salt maker is also known to be called a "thoreya" in Kannada, Torke might also have got its name from that. Sanikatta
Sanikatta is a twin village (combined with Talgeri) in Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, India. This place is about a few square kilometres in extent. It is in the neighborhood of Gokarna, Devarbhavi, Torke and Tadadi port. The place Sanikatta is the oldest salt-manufacturing village in the Karnataka State. Beginning from 1720, Sanikatta has continued manufacturing salt for nearly 300 years. Climate The village is a west coastal lowland and forms part of the Western Ghats. It is characterized by high temperatures throughout the year. The rainfall here is seasonal, but heavy and is abou350cm a year. Hubli
Hubli, officially known as Hubballi, is a city in the Indian state of Karnataka. The twin cities Hubli–Dharwad form the second largest city in the state by area and population and the largest city in North Karnataka. Hubli is in Dharwad district of Karnataka and is the taluk headquarters of Hubli City and Hubli Rural. Although it hosts the HDMC office, the district headquarters is in Dharwad. It also houses the largest number of government offices outside the state capital. In 2016, Hubli-Dharwad was selected for solar city / green city master plans. Dharwar
Dharwad (), also known as Dharwar, is a city located in the north western part of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is the headquarters of the Dharwad district of Karnataka and forms a contiguous urban area with the city of Hubballi. Karnataka College of Arts and Science, Dharwad (1917) is one of the leading institutions in Karnataka, India offering B.A., B.Com. and B.Sc degrees.
