Goodland is a census-designated place (CDP) in Collier County, Florida, United States. The population was 267 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Naples–Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. Located on the southeast portion of Marco Island, it is the closest community to Cape Romano, the southern tip of a nearby island that was the official site of the Florida landfall of Hurricane Wilma. Geography Goodland is located in southwestern Collier County at . The beachfront city of Marco Island is to the west. Goodland is nearly surrounded by water, with Goodland Bay to the north, Coon Key Pass to the east, and Blue Hill Creek to the south. Goodland Academy is a boarding school located in Choctaw County, Oklahoma, southwest of Hugo in southeastern Oklahoma, U.S.. Founded in 1848 as a Presbyterian mission, it is the oldest private boarding school in Oklahoma still in operation. History Two Presbyterian ministers, Rev. Ebenezer Hotchkin and Rev. Benton County Wind Farm
The Benton County Wind Farm (also called Goodland I) consists of 87 model sl/sle Gen4 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines near Earl Park, Indiana in northern Benton County, Indiana. The farm's nameplate capacity is 130.5 MW. The farm was developed by Orion Energy Group, LLC (Oakland, CA) and Vision Energy, LLC (Cincinnati, OH) beginning in 2003. It began commercial operation in April 2008. At the time of its construction, it was Indiana's only commercial-scale wind farm. Duke Energy purchases electricity from the wind farm and sells it to customers through its GoGreen program. In August 2006, Duke Energy Indiana finalized its agreement to buy the output of 54 of the wind farm's 87 wind turbines for 20 years. This was the first significant long-term wind power purchase agreement in Indiana. The remaining 33 wind turbines in the wind farm sell their electricity to Duke and Vectren. Carbury–Goodlands Border Crossing
The Carbury–Goodlands Border Crossing connects the towns of Souris, North Dakota and Deloraine, Manitoba on the Canada–United States border. North Dakota Highway 14 on the American side joins Manitoba Highway 21 on the Canadian side. Canadian side Deloraine, which had a customs presence from 1889, served as the frontier office. In 1932, the function was moved to the border, adopting the name of Goodlands, the nearest post office. That year, a residence and office accommodation were erected. Canada replaced the 1970s-era Goodlands border station in 2014. In 2020, the former border hours of 8am–10pm reduced, becoming 9am–5pm. US side The settlement of Carbury, North Dakota has virtually vanished. The border station built in 1963 was replaced in 2011. The border was previously open until 10 pm. Goodland is an unincorporated community in Bailey County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 10 in 2000. History Goodland was founded in 1924 when the McKeloey brothers moved to the area from Fort Worth and sold their ranch. It was given the name Goodland because of the high hopes of local settlers. The community thrived as a ranching community but continued to thrive when farmers started growing sunflowers, wheat, sorghum, grain, and cotton. It had three stores and 50 residents in 1940. It grew to 65 in 1980 and gained a post office, a store, a cotton gin, and a grain elevator. The population went down to 25 in 1990 and continued to shrink to 10 in 2000 and remained there in 2010.
