"Good Old Days", is a 1930 instrumental song written by Leroy Shield, which was the theme song for Hal Roach's ''Our Gang'' comedy short films, now known as ''The Little Rascals''. History The tune was originally written as score for a prison schoolroom scene in ''Pardon Us'', Laurel & Hardy's first feature film as a team. Shield, a musical director hired by the Roach studio on loan from RCA Victor, had been requested by Hal Roach to also write a theme for ''Our Gang'' while he was scoring ''Pardon Us,'' and when Roach came to check on progress for the theme, Shield submitted the selection from the ''Pardon Us'' score to satisfy the request. Leroy Shield
Leroy Bernard Shield (October 2, 1893 – January 9, 1962) was an American film score and radio composer. He is best known for the themes and incidental music he wrote for the classic Hal Roach comedy short films of the 1930s, including the ''Our Gang'' and ''Laurel and Hardy'' series. Career Shield was a native of Waseca, Minnesota. Around 1922, he became a staff musician for the Victor Talking Machine Company (which later became RCA Victor), where he composed and conducted on-air music, and provided piano accompaniment on hundreds of popular and USF (US domestic foreign language) Victor recordings. He also worked part-time for the Hal Roach film studio, composing countless background themes that became associated with such Roach comedy stars as Laurel and Hardy, Our Gang, ZaSu Pitts and Thelma Todd, and Charley Chase. David L. Snell (10 September 1897 – 27 March 1967) was a pianist, conductor, composer and music director. He composed the music for over 170 shorts, series or feature films. Early years David L. Snell was born on 10 September 1897 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He became a pianist, and studied at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Wisconsin College and the Meyer Conservatory of Music. He formed his own orchestra, and was the musical director for several stage productions. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer music director Snell joined Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's music department in 1937, turning out music for a range of films from low-cost "B" movies to expensive features. ''The Little Rascals'' is a 1994 American family comedy film produced by Amblin Entertainment, and released by Universal Pictures on August 5, 1994. The film is an adaptation of Hal Roach's ''Our Gang'', a series of short films of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s (many of which were broadcast on television as ''The Little Rascals'') which centered on the adventures of a group of neighborhood children. Directed by Penelope Spheeris, who co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Guay and Stephen Mazur, the film presents several of the ''Our Gang'' characters in an updated setting, featuring re-interpretations of several of the original shorts. The Beau Hunks are a Netherlands, Dutch revivalist artist, revivalist music ensemble who have performed and recorded the vintage works of composers Leroy Shield, Marvin Hatley, Raymond Scott, Edward MacDowell, Ferde Grofé, and others. They have been referred to as a "documentary orchestra", because they perform note-perfect renditions of music which is obscure and often commercially unavailable.
