Good News (1979 Film)
''Good News'' ( it, Buone notizie) is a 1979 Italian satirical comedy film written and directed by Elio Petri and starring Giancarlo Giannini. It is the last film of Petri. In the film, a man is contacted by an old friend whose life is supposedly threatened by assassins. He has an erotic encounter with his friend's wife, shortly before the man's death. At the friend's funeral, the man learn's about the widow's pregnancy. Plot An anonymous official of a television company leads an ordinary life; going to work every day and coming home to his wife. However, his marriage is in crisis because he and his wife can no longer communicate with one another. One day, he is contacted by an old friend he hasn't seen for several years. His friend confides that he is being threatened by mysterious assassins. After a series of adventures, including an erotic interlude with his friend's wife, he receives an envelope from his friend with the words, "not to be opened" on a series of cards t ... Elio Petri
Eraclio Petri (29 January 1929 – 10 November 1982), commonly known as Elio Petri, was an Italian film director, screenwriter, theatre director, and critic associated with the political cinema in the 1960s and '70s. His film ''Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion'' won the 1971 Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film, and his film ''The Working Class Goes to Heaven'' won the Palme d'Or at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival. Petri's other notable films include ''The 10th Victim'' (1965), ''We Still Kill the Old Way'' (1967), '' A Quiet Place in the Country'' (1968), ''Property Is No Longer a Theft'' (1973), and '' Todo modo'' (1976).
