Gonzalo Mejía
Gonzalo Mejía Trujillo (Medellín, 1884–1956) was a Colombian businessman. Together with Guillermo Echavarría Misas, he founded Compañía Colombiana de Navegación Aérea, which was the first aviation company and the provider of the first airmail services in the Americas. He took part in the development of the region of Urabá Antioquia, and of the highway from Bogotá to Turbo. Turbo (Antioquia)
Turbo is a port city in Antioquia Department, Colombia. Part of the Urabá Antioquia sub-region, it is located on the coast of Gulf of Urabá, 340 km north of Medellín (the department capital and second largest city). This port city is the capital of the Urabá region of Antioquia. The place where Turbo is today was known as Pisisí, but by 1741 people were already talking about Turbo. By a decree on May 11, 1839, the central government spent one thousand pesos for military service barracks in Turbo. In 1840, the republican president assigned one thousand fanegas of uncultivated lands for the new population. It was established as a municipality in 1847. Turbo lies near the southeastern tip of the Darién Gap and is the northern terminus of the main route of the Pan-American Highway in South America. Uraba, Medellin and Central Airways (UMCA) was a Pan American Airways-affiliate airline that from 1932 flew from the then US-controlled Panama Canal Zone to Colombia. The carrier was majority and then wholly-owned by Pan Am, and certificated in 1940 as a United States international scheduled carrier by the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), the now-defunct Federal agency that, at the time, tightly regulated almost all US commercial transportation. Edificio Gonzalo Mejía
The Edificio Gonzalo Mejía was an Art Nouveau hotel, theatre, and commercial building in Medellín, Colombia standing from 1924 to 1967. Designed by the Belgian architect Agustín Goovaerts in 1922, the building contained the Hotel Europa and a theatre dedicated to showing movies along with other commercial clients. The building has been considered as one of the finest works of architecture built in Colombia during the 1920s. In 1967, the building was demolished and replaced by the Coltejer Building, the tallest in Medellín.
