Gonatopus (animal)
''Gonatopus '' is a genus of solitary wasps of the family Dryinidae, sometimes called hump-backed pincer wasps. The wingless females have large scissor-like appendages at the tips of the front legs which are used to catch the leafhopper grubs which act as hosts to the larvae of these wasps. The larva consumes the leafhopper grub from the inside. An indication that a leafhopper is hosting a grub is a cyst of accumulated shed integuments which surround and protect the growing wasp larva. Species The following list is alist of the species included within the genus ''Gonatopus'' found in Europe: A new species '' Gonatopus jacki'' described from the Florida, USA in 2018. *'' Gonatopus albolineatus'' Kieffer, 1904 *'' Gonatopus albosignatus'' Kieffer, 1904 *'' Gonatopus ater'' Olmi, 1984 *'' Gonatopus atlanticus'' Olmi, 1984 *'' Gonatopus audax'' (Olmi, 1984) *'' Gonatopus azorensis'' (Olmi, 1989) *'' Gonatopus baeticus'' (Ceballos, 1927) *'' Gonatopus bicolor'' ( Haliday, 1828) *'' ... Achille Costa (10 August 1823, Lecce – 17 November 1899 Rome) was an Italian zoologist working mainly in entomology who was appointed director of the Zoological Museum of Naples. He founded the entomological collections in Naples and described many new species. Achille Costa was the son of Oronzio Gabriele Costa. Carl Peter Thunberg

After studying under Linnaeus at Uppsala University, he spent seven years travelling in southern Africa and Asia, collecting and describing many plants and animals new to European science, and observing local cultures. He has been called "the father of South African botany", "pioneer of Occidental Medicine in Japan", and the "Japanese Linnaeus". Early life Thunberg was born and grew up in Jönköping, Sweden. At the age of 18, he entered Uppsala University where he was taught by Carl Linnaeus, regarded as the "father of modern taxonomy". Thunberg graduated in 1767 after 6 years of studying. To deepen his knowledge in botany, medicine and natural history, he was encouraged by Linnaeus in 1770 to travel to Paris and Amsterdam. In Amsterdam and Leiden Thunberg met the Dutch botanis ... Gonatopus Clavipes
''Gonatopus clavipes'' is a species of small wasp in the family Dryinidae. It is a solitary wasp that superficially resembles an ant, and its larva is a parasitoid of leafhoppers in the subfamily Deltocephalinae. It has a Palearctic distribution, and within Europe parasitises at least eleven genera and thirty-one species of leafhopper. Description The adult ''G. clavipes'' is between long. Males are winged but females are wingless. The maxillary palps have 4 to 5 joints. The body is black and parts of the head and pedicel are yellowish. The proximal ends of the leg joints are yellowish-brown and the distal parts brownish-black. The legs have short bristles on the inside and end in a claw. The front pair of legs are modified into chelae for gripping prey, although in this species, the chelae are relatively small. Ecology An adult female ''G. clavipes'' moves around the foliage hunting for a leafhopper, using her antennae in her search. When she finds one she pounces on it and ...
