Golo Footwear
Golo Footwear is a fashion company established in 1915 by the German immigrant Adolf Heilbrunn. The company initially designed and manufactured slippers in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, and was known for experimenting with materials not traditionally used in footwear, such as cork, stretch fabrics, Gore-Tex for rainboots, and clear lucite sandal wedges. In 2006, there were 22 Golo boots, shoes, and sandals in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, including an over-the-knee boot made of different-colored patent leather zip-on layers, stretch patent leather boots designed for Jacques Tiffeau in 1967, and the denim platform boots designed by Leila Larmon and Stephen Bruce. Dunmore, Pennsylvania
Dunmore is a borough (Pennsylvania), borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States, adjoining Scranton, Pennsylvania, Scranton. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania and was settled in 1835 and incorporated in 1862. Extensive anthracite, anthracite coal, brick, stone, and silk interests had led to a rapid increase in the population from 8,315 in 1890 to 23,086 in 1940. Gore-Tex is a waterproof, breathable fabric membrane and registered trademark of W. L. Gore & Associates. Invented in 1969, Gore-Tex can repel liquid water while allowing water vapor to pass through and is designed to be a lightweight, waterproof fabric for all-weather use. Go-go boots are a low-heeled style of women's fashion boot first introduced in the mid-1960s. The original go-go boots, as defined by André Courrèges in 1964, were white, low-heeled, and mid-calf in height, a specific style which is sometimes called the Courrèges boot. Richard Avedon (May 15, 1923 – October 1, 2004) was an American fashion and portrait photographer. Dennis Comeau (born 1965) is an American shoe designer and former new wave vocalist and guitarist. Musically he is best remembered for his short-lived band Hormones with Stiv Bators and Andre Siva, his band Flustercunk, and collaborations with members of Pere Ubu, and DNA. Flustercunk notoriously opened for Blondie at CBGB in 1982, and were kicked out and asked not to return after a fight broke out in the crowd and Comeau was hit in the face with a bottle and hospitalized. The band was accused of "inciting a riot", though band members denied the accusation. After leaving the music industry, Comeau became an assistant to shoe designer Enzo Angiolini, now owned by Jones New York.
